A storied piece of the Las Vegas Valley — fertile desert ground that grew into one of the most recognizable communities in the country.
Few neighborhoods carry a name as fitting — or as historic — as Paradise Valley. The southern stretch of the Las Vegas Valley was being called Paradise Valley as early as 1910, when an unusually high water table made this patch of desert surprisingly fertile and well-suited to farming. Clark County established a Paradise school district here in 1914, decades before the lights of the modern Strip ever flickered on.
The community took its modern shape in 1950. When the City of Las Vegas moved to annex the resort corridor and expand its tax base, a group of casino executives lobbied the county to create a protected township instead. The unincorporated town of Paradise was formed on December 8, 1950, and a month later it grew to fold in the residential Paradise Valley neighborhoods that families still call home today.

Today, Paradise is one of the largest communities of its kind in the United States, with a population recorded at 191,238 in the 2020 census — large enough to rank as the fifth-most-populous place of its type in the country. Governed by the Clark County Commission with guidance from the Paradise Town Advisory Board, it remains an unincorporated town, which is why every Paradise Valley address still carries a “Las Vegas, NV” mailing designation.

From most Paradise Valley neighborhoods, the simplest route is to head west on Charleston Boulevard, which leads directly toward Rampart Boulevard. Drivers coming from near the airport or the south end of the valley often find the 215 Beltway the fastest option, exiting toward the Charleston and Rampart area.
