Dental Bridges: Their Various Types, Their Benefits, Their Procedures, and Their Prices.

September 30, 2022
dental Bridge

My tooth is missing and I need a dental bridge. How can I bridge the gap? Implant? Bridge? Let's look at your possibilities.

Surprisingly often, dental problems can range from a persistent toothache to cavities to the entire loss of a permanent tooth. No matter what issue you are having with your dental health, there is a dentist out there who can help.

One dental operation for which people visit their dentist on a somewhat regular basis is a dental bridge. If you are unfamiliar with this piece of equipment, that is very understandable. The majority of people are only familiar with the simpler procedures in dentistry, such scaling and fillings.

On the other side, bridges play a critical role in helping people who are missing teeth regain their oral health. They are often used in the field of restorative dentistry to address a range of potential problems.

The following page will provide all the details you need about dental bridges, including the many types, advantages, remedies, and costs.

What does a dental bridge truly mean?

One type of prosthetic that can be used to replace a missing tooth or set of teeth is a dental bridge. Bridges are frequently made of ceramic or porcelain. When it comes to how they carry out their functions, bridges are fundamentally different from dental implants, which also insert artificial roots into the gum.

It is customary to use one of the teeth on either side of the gap left by the lost tooth or teeth while building a bridge. The technique of fastening the bridge in place makes use of these teeth that are close to the gap. To "bridge" the gap left by the missing teeth and aid in their closure, a prosthetic tooth is placed there.

It is standard procedure to file down the adjacent teeth until they can support a dental crown. Dental crowns are specialist caps that dentists place over teeth to restore them to their original function after they have been chipped or filed down. They are constructed of material of the highest medical grade. The crown that fills in the space left by the missing tooth will also function as a bridge, albeit it may be noticeably broader or deeper than the crowns that join the adjacent teeth.

Why do I need a dental bridge in this circumstance?

For a variety of reasons, including the following, if you have lost teeth, a dental bridge may be beneficial for you:

• Ever since you lost that tooth, have you been unable to smile? Do not worry; a dental bridge can assist in restoring the situation to its original state.

Dental bridges can help prevent the spread of an infection to your exposed gums.

• Losing teeth makes it difficult to chew food, but dental bridges can help you regain that ability.

Since missing teeth can occasionally affect how the gums and jaw develop, it's critical to replace them as soon as possible. It is crucial to replace any missing teeth as a result.

What various types of dental bridges are there?

Since bridges are a successful treatment for a variety of dental problems, dentists have created a broad variety of unique bridge types to help address various dental conditions, including the following:

• The Traditional Fixed Bridge: When restoring lost teeth, this style of bridge is most usually employed. When utilizing this technique, the teeth that are close to the gap left by the missing tooth are covered with crowns. On either side of the opening are these teeth. The gap is filled with a filler tooth, which is secured in place with complementing crowns. These kinds of bridges are frequently made of porcelain that has been fused to a metal or ceramic object. When two healthy teeth are present on either side of the missing tooth, this surgery works well. But each of these teeth will require some reduction work in order for them to successfully support new crowns.

• Cantilever Bridge: When one of the neighboring teeth needed to support a second new crown has been lost, a cantilever bridge is used. A total of two artificial crowns are implanted within the patient's mouth, as opposed to the standard three crowns used in a fixed bridge.

Resin-Bonded Bridges: Resin-bonded bridges are another term for Maryland Bonded Bridges, which are dental restorations used to replace missing front teeth. This technique is used to anchor a pontic to healthy teeth that are nearby. The recently implanted artificial tooth's position is maintained with the help of this tactic. It doesn't involve shaping or filing the teeth next to the damaged tooth.

What is the process for placing a dental bridge?

• Placing a dental bridge is a relatively straightforward procedure that usually only needs one or two trips to the dentist's office to be completed. The exposed gum and the area just around it will first be cleaned by the dentist. The neighboring teeth that are pertinent will then be filed down, and the area will then be disinfected once more. The teeth are then slightly reshaped so that an artificial crown can be supported. After this, a mold is created in order to construct the bridge. Dentists frequently provide their patients temporary bridges to wear while they await the preparation of their permanent bridges.

Your dentist will next finish by using a specific dental adhesive to attach the bridge to the teeth. Dentists must decide whether to use a dental implant as the anchor for a bridge for each individual patient. But in other circumstances, it might be the wisest choice.

How much does getting a dental bridge cost?

Dental care is never inexpensive. A standard or cantilever bridge might run you anywhere from $1,500 to $5,000 to build. A bridge in Maryland costs between $1500 and $2500 to build. Budget between $4,000 and $15,000 for the treatment if you choose to have a bridge supported by implants.

The good news is that having dental insurance can significantly reduce the costs associated with these procedures by as much as 50%. As a result, the maximum cost for a traditional or cantilever bridge drops to $2,500, while the costs for a Maryland bridge and implant-supported bridge rise to $1,250 and $7,500, respectively.

Depending on the circumstances, a different sum of money may be required to cover the cost of the procedure.

What is the lifespan of a dental bridge?

The lifespan of a dental bridge is typically between 10 and 15 years; however, depending on how well the patient takes care of their original teeth, this number may be increased or decreased. The bridge could begin to deteriorate in as short as five to seven years, though, if you neglect it and abuse it violently.

You may extend the life of dental bridges by brushing your teeth twice daily. Dental practitioners frequently recommend silica-containing toothpaste as it is their preferred brand. You should floss your teeth as well. Avoiding foods and beverages that are high in sugar or acid is advised if you wish to maintain the health of your bridge.

What are the potential drawbacks of using dental bridges?

Dental bridges are effective; the installation process is made painless by the use of an anesthetic, and the actual installation process can be finished in a fair amount of time. There might, however, be a few issues with this procedure. Here is a summary of some typical potential issues that could occur with dental bridges:

• The teeth next to the space left by a missing tooth are typically filed down in order to aid in supporting a new crown. Teeth that are generally in excellent health are altered by this. • Dental bridges are more prone to produce infections than implants or fillings because of their intricate structure, which makes them difficult to keep clean. • You must file down the teeth next to the gap in order to obtain a traditional or cantilever bridge. On the other hand, if you follow strict hygiene guidelines, you shouldn't experience any problems.

• Every ten to fifteen years, bridges should be modernized.

You should give the issues mentioned above careful thought before deciding to acquire a dental bridge. There are many benefits to building a bridge, but there are certain negatives as well that must be overlooked. As a result, many people consider other solutions, with implants being the most popular choice.

Implants or bridges? The query is that.

The decision of whether to acquire bridges or implants has been highly contested for a very long time.

Generally speaking, implants last longer than bridges. Contrary to bridges, which often only endure between 10 and 15 years, they can typically offer you protection for the duration of your life. Along with this advantage, implants are known to support strong jawbones. This is due to the fact that they are entirely attached within your gum as compared to regular veneers, which are only placed over raw gum tissue. The existence of implants won't put your jaw's mechanics at risk; they'll continue to function as they always have.

Dental bridges are significantly more likely to become infected than implants are. In order to help you keep a clean and healthy bridge, your dentist may suggest additional dental care procedures. It can be challenging to brush and floss around the false crowns. Your bridge will remain in good shape if you do this.

On the other hand, if you consistently use toothpaste to brush your teeth, visit the dentist for checkups, and floss your teeth in the proper places, your bridge will surely continue to be infection-free.

Because there are several advantages to having implants instead of bridges, people frequently opt for this procedure. In spite of the fact that patients have the option of having implants, bridges are still the most common and commonly used method of tooth replacement.

The single most significant argument that can be made in favor of this result is the price. Getting a bridge is substantially less expensive than getting an implant. Implants may need for additional procedures like grafting or a sinus lift, all of which raise the overall cost of the procedure.

These extra procedures do not need to be finished for bridges. The strength of the gums or the density of the jawbone are trivial and can be easily disregarded concerns. Additionally, no type of surgical treatment is required for the placement of a bridge.

Finding a dentist as soon as possible and scheduling an appointment for a dental bridge is your best option if money is tight or you'd prefer to avoid invasive surgical procedures.

Several final thoughts

As is evident, there is a wide variety of bridge types to choose from. To help you select the solution that is best for you, you should review your options with a qualified dentist. Before committing to a specific appointment time, be sure to carefully consider all of your possibilities.

Making a dentist appointment can be a challenging and time-consuming task, especially if you're in a rush and don't know where to hunt for a trustworthy dentist in your region. But once you organize the specifics of your visit, you'll be happy you did.

Never put off getting dental work done, especially if it's something as significant as mending a bridge. If you take the necessary steps to care for your teeth, you can quickly make them pain-free.

Safe Mercury Removal – How to Best Remove and Replace Harmful Metal Fillings

September 28, 2022

mercury

The Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique is what's meant to be abbreviated as SMART. During the process of removing mercury fillings, this method, which was created by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT), keeps all of our patients, as well as our dental team, safe from exposure to mercury vapor. According to the findings of a number of studies, silver (amalgam) fillings can include up to fifty percent mercury, which has the potential to cause a wide range of health problems. Mercury exposure has been linked to a wide variety of adverse health effects, including but not limited to: depression, anxiety, chronic illnesses, persistent weariness, and prenatal abnormalities. Because of this, many patients who have older metal fillings want to have them removed from their teeth.

DID YOU KNOW… According to the IAOMT, all metal fillings contain approximately 50% mercury!

HOW IT IS DONE: THE SMART PROCESS

CONSULTATION

Your current metal fillings will be evaluated by Dr. Cohan during your consultation to determine whether or not you will need to have them replaced. It is possible that your she will advise you to keep them in place if they are in good shape and do not constitute a risk to your health. However, in the majority of instances, it is to one's advantage to have them replaced.

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES

During the process of removing your filling, both you and your doctor will wear protective coverings and a drape will be placed between the two of you. In the operatory, there will be a high-vacuum filtering system that will be used to remove any mercury vapor that may be formed as a result of the removal of your silver fillings.

PREPARING FOR THE PROCEDURE

During the whole duration of the process, you will be required to breathe oxygen through a face mask in order to prevent the inhalation of any potentially hazardous fumes. A dental dam will also be placed in your mouth by your doctor in order to isolate the region that is being operated on.

REMOVAL OF METAL FILLINGS

Your dentist will begin the process of removing the metal amalgam fillings using a precise drill, suction, and water as soon as all of the safety precautions have been taken.

ORAL RINSE

Following the extraction of the metal filling, your dentist will provide you with a slurry of activated charcoal and water to rinse your mouth with. Through the process of rinsing your mouth with a slurry, the charcoal will be able to absorb any potential trace amounts of metal that may have made their way into your mouth.

PLACEMENT OF NEW FILLINGSmercury

At long last, the metal filling that was previously in your tooth will be replaced with a long-lasting composite filling instead. Fillings made of composite material not only help to maintain the natural structure of your tooth, but also improve its overall appearance.

THE BENEFITS OF SMART

ENJOY BETTER AESTHETICS

It's possible for metal fillings to make your smile look dingy and unattractive. Even when they are attached to the back teeth, they can be seen when the person laughs, smiles, or speaks. Patients can experience the aesthetic benefits of composite fillings that look more natural than natural tooth enamel when metal fillings are removed and replaced.

STAY AHEAD OF MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS

According to the findings of several studies, mercury exposure has been related in some instances to clinical depression as well as other mental health problems. Eliminating the presence of mercury in your mouth is the best way to avoid these possible effects, despite the fact that they are quite uncommon. Insomnia, irritability, anxiety, and withdrawal from social situations have been reported as symptoms of mercury poisoning brought on by the inhalation or consumption of mercury vapor in some instances.

STAY HEALTHY TO AVOID ONGOING ILLNESSES

Studies have indicated that having mercury in the bloodstream can lead to chronic and long term disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, cardiovascular issues, and renal dysfunction. This is in addition to the unfavorable associations that have been shown between mercury and mental health.

KEEP YOUR TEETH IN GOOD HEALTH.

Traditional metal fillings don't attach to the teeth nearly as well as their modern composite counterparts do. This translates to the removal of less dental enamel being necessary when using composite fillings as opposed to metal fillings. Because of this, many dentists will advise their patients to replace a metal filling that has become damaged with a composite filling in order to save as much of the patient's natural tooth structure as is practicable. In the long run, this helps to keep your teeth in good health and strengthens them.

DID YOU KNOW… Mercury was used in metal fillings until 2009.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

DOES REMOVING AMALGAM FILLINGS HURT?

No. During the entire procedure, the region that encompasses the tooth will have a numbing effect. You might feel a little bit of pressure from the drill, but you shouldn't experience any discomfort at all. Sedation is an option that may be made accessible to you in specific circumstances so that you can remain blissfully oblivious and calm while undergoing your SMART operation. Make an appointment with your primary care provider as soon as possible if you are interested in discussing the various methods of sedation at your disposal.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCESS TAKE?

The length of the process will change depending on the specific requirements of each individual patient. The length of the treatment will be determined, in part, by the size and quantity of the metal fillings that need to be extracted. Having a filling placed in each tooth, on the other hand, often takes about the same length of time as doing this procedure.

IS REMOVING MERCURY FILLINGS COVERED BY INSURANCE?

If it is judged that the removal of your metal fillings is a necessary therapy rather than an elective one, then it is possible that your insurance will cover the cost of the procedure. If your metal fillings are considered to be in good condition and do not pose a threat to your health, you may be responsible for paying some out-of-pocket costs in order to have them removed for the sole purpose of improving your smile's appearance. Get in touch with your insurance provider if you want to have a better understanding of your coverage. In addition, our team is delighted to respond to any questions you might have in order to be certain that you are maximizing the benefits that your dental insurance provides.

DO I NEED TO HAVE MY AMALGAM FILLINGS REMOVED?

In the vast majority of instances, metal fillings will need to be extracted. This is typically the result of the filling's advanced age. These days, the vast majority of dentists utilize composite fillings, therefore the fact that you have a metal filling makes it highly likely that it is deteriorating. This can result in more tooth decay, which is why it is essential to have your fillings evaluated to determine whether or not they are performing as expected. It is usually safer to have metal fillings removed proactively in order to decrease the danger of acquiring mercury poisoning (and the adverse effects that come along with it) in the future. This is in addition to any potential tooth decay that may occur.

DID YOU KNOW… As you brush, chew and clench your teeth, your metal fillings could be releasing harmful mercury vapor.

The Impact Of Porcelain Veneers

September 15, 2022

Dental veneers are a frequent procedure used by cosmetic dentists to enhance a person's smile's appearance and feel. With Dr. Cohan's custom porcelain dental veneers, you might have a new smile in as little as a few appointments. In contrast, using braces or other procedures to gradually reshape your teeth over the period of months or even years is an alternative.

Veneers

Without having to through any lengthy treatment processes, dental veneers are a quick and easy way to give yourself the stunning new smile you've always desired. Additionally, the results have a profound impact on people's life. Dr. Cohan would be happy to meet with you for a personalized consultation to go through your options if you have been thinking about having veneers.

But what precisely are porcelain veneers?

Your front teeth's surface is covered with a very thin layer of porcelain for each veneer. Any cosmetic issues or imperfections in your smile that you may have will be concealed by your veneer. as tooth staining or a lack of space between them. A patient's teeth are frequently covered with veneers one at a time, enabling the full set to work in conjunction with the veneers to create the desired smile.

What Role Do Porcelain Veneers Play?

Porcelain veneers are made of high-quality materials that are incredibly long-lasting and able to maintain their original brightness over time without ever becoming tarnished or discolored in any way. Each veneer is utilized to make your front teeth look better on the outside, brightening and symmetrically balancing your smile by hiding imperfections like misshapen or discolored enamel. By placing veneers on the front surfaces of your teeth, this is achieved. The best part is that once your veneers are put in, you'll be able to detect the change immediately away.

You can gain advantages from veneers like:

Increased levels of confidence: Speaking in public, laughing with friends, or even taking part in a photo session with the people who are important to you may be tough if you are self-conscious about the way your teeth look. However, once the veneers are in place, you'll be more confident in your ability to speak, smile, and laugh.

Be more cheerful: When your grin is at its best, you'll find it much easier to start conversations and make a good first impression. You won't have to worry about what other people are thinking about you because of how your teeth appear when you are confident that they always look their best.

A More Healthy-Looking Smile: Handmade porcelain veneers result in outcomes that are both aesthetically pleasing and appear real. They work together to lessen the appearance of any gaps, crowding, stains, or other flaws in your visible smile and increase its all-around attractiveness.

A More Youthful and Fresher Look: Of all the outcomes created by cosmetic dentistry procedures, porcelain dental veneers' before-and-after photos are the ones that stand out the most. These restorations will give your teeth a perfect appearance, and your entire appearance will be renewed and invigorated.

The procedures involved in receiving porcelain dental veneers

The process of making porcelain veneers involves three steps. You will first make a consultation appointment with our Summerlin dentist. Your teeth will be examined by our dentist at this visit to see if any need to be fixed with veneers. To help us create a new treatment strategy and get the greatest outcomes, it's likely that we will take scans or impressions of your teeth.

You will check in to begin the preliminary phase of your therapy at the second stage of the procedure. This visit will take a little bit longer to finish than we had initially thought. The number of veneers you buy will ultimately determine the outcome. Dr. Cohan will go over what to expect and provide you with some preparation tips during the initial visit.

The front surface of the teeth as well as the surface of the teeth surrounding the edges will be somewhat reduced during this step of the process by our Summerlin dentist. This will free up enough space for the porcelain veneers to cover your teeth without adding any more mass. After making all the required preparations, we will either take impressions or scan the area. These models will be delivered to a dental laboratory, which will use the information we provide to construct the permanent porcelain veneers using the models.

TEETH-WITH-SPACES-295x300

We will create a set of temporary veneers for you to wear while we wait for the lab to complete the manufacturing of your permanent veneers, which will take a few weeks. In order to give you a sneak peek at the final look of the veneers you're thinking about receiving, Dr. Cohan could schedule a second mock-up session.

As soon as the finished veneers are delivered, you will need to return to our office so they may be cemented in. Our Summerlin cosmetic dentist will take out your temporary veneers before measuring the fit of the final veneers. Dr. Cohan will make any necessary adjustments to the veneers before they are finally permanently attached to your natural teeth.

Who Has a Need for Dental Veneers?

You might be wondering if porcelain veneers are the right choice for you. If you fit any of the above descriptions, please contact us so that we can arrange a consultation.

Severe stains that can't be eliminated by tooth whitening are referred to as discoloration.

When compared to the teeth around them, teeth that are worn down or short appear shorter or more uneven.

Affordable Smile Makeovers in Las Vegas

Smile Makeover

Is it feasible to design a smile makeover without going over budget? Absolutely. At Summerlin Dental Solutions, we give patients the option to obtain affordably cost aesthetic procedures every day. It all depends on the objectives you have for your smile, the financial commitment you can make, the time commitment you are ready to make, and the types of treatment options that are right for your teeth.

Never forget to monitor your finances.

Depending on the complexity of the procedure, the total cost of a smile makeover might range from $200 to more than $10,000. There are several choices available to you if your stimulus check is burning a hole in your wallet and you want to use it to get a smile makeover. In some situations, you might even have money left over (depending on what it is that you want.)

Our Summerlin cosmetic dental specialists will be able to develop a treatment plan for you that is both efficient and economical if you communicate your ideal spending cap or pricing range to us. This will prevent you from being shocked by the procedure's overall expense. Here, there is something for everyone to enjoy!

Learn about your options.

You've probably seen the beautiful dental makeovers that celebrities have flaunted online, on magazine covers, and in news stories about them. Not all improvements to the grin, meanwhile, are made equal. It is not necessarily required to have porcelain dental veneers installed on every single tooth that is visible when you smile in order to have attractive teeth.

Additional aesthetic treatments to think about include enamel recontouring, dental bonding, gum recontouring, take-home whitening trays, chairside veneers, white fillings, gum bleaching, accelerated orthodontics (short-term braces), injectables like Botox, and injectable fillers.

Combine, Then Combine Some More

Our Summerlin cosmetic dentist will work with you to create a plan that incorporates suitable treatment options into the larger scheme of things. In order to do this, a tooth-by-tooth strategy will be used. A "treatment plan" or "case plan" is what is used in this method, and it details the precise therapies that will be applied to each tooth as well as the sequence in which they will be done. Dr. Cohan can also come up with a few alternative treatment plans for you so you can weigh all of the possible results before choosing.

For instance, one of the techniques can involve bonding in a few particular areas of the mouth after teeth whitening with Invisalign. Another option is to undergo gum recontouring surgery following the placement of six veneers. In a nutshell, you have the knowledge you need to carefully examine which activities are most suited for your particular circumstances from the different combinations and plan alternatives that are possible. There is no such thing as a smile makeover kit! It does not necessarily follow that you will have to go through the exact same process in order to achieve the same goals just because one treatment option worked better for a friend.

Numerous Possibilities for Interest-Free Financing

smile makeover

Assuming you want to spend a little more on your smile makeover, you want to research low-cost monthly payment options so that you can start the procedure as soon as possible. You'll be happy to know that Summerlin Dental Solutions and CareCredit have partnered to offer low-interest and even interest-free financing options for all of their services if this applies to you (including non-cosmetic treatments.)

What happens is as follows: You can apply online or in person at our office, and you will immediately be approved and have access to the money. a device that resembles a debit or credit card. After that, you can use the account number connected to your CareCredit card to pay in full or in part for your dental operations.

In order to give coverage for areas of your care that might not be covered by your usual benefits, such as cosmetic dentistry, it is also possible to combine it with any existing insurance coverage. Depending on the terms of their accounts, the majority of our patients are qualified to get 0% interest on their CareCredit accounts as long as the debt is paid off within 12 to 18 months, or at a low interest rate overall. Since you will be able to afford smaller monthly payments while staying within your budget, you won't have to put off getting a smile makeover because you can't afford larger monthly payments.

Start Your Makeover Sooner Rather Than Later

If there is one thing that we know for sure about dentistry, it is that treating oral health issues when they are discovered early on is more cost-effective than waiting until they have become more serious disorders. The overall cost of the initial treatment will need to be adjusted if you are aware that a porcelain crown is necessary for a tooth but the enamel continues to deteriorate over time. This is due to the enamel's declining cost over time. You can save time and money by resolving the problem as soon as you can, before it has a chance to get worse.

Our mild, customized smile makeover procedures at Summerlin Dental Solutions are available for patients from all walks of life. No matter who you are or where you are in life, whether you are a recent college graduate getting ready to enter the workforce, a busy parent running your own business, or a recent retiree, we are here to help you achieve the smile of your dreams. Make an appointment for a free consultation with Dr. Cohan to discover more about your choices. Together, we'll be able to help you develop a grin you'll be proud to flash to others.

Top Four Cosmetic Dental Treatments in Summerlin

September 6, 2022
cosmetic dentistry

When you work with a fantastic cosmetic dentist in Summerlin like Dr. Cohan, one of the benefits you get is the opportunity to select from a wide range of different procedures and treatments that can assist you in achieving the smile you have always wanted. You may improve your outcomes, save money, and complete the task in a time period that is suitable for your lifestyle if you are aware of the various possibilities that are available to you.

If you believe that there is only one way to acquire stunning teeth that are straight, then it's time to talk to our cosmetic dentist in Summerlin about these four incredible alternatives:

Dental Veneers (Traditional and Same Day)

Dental veneers are an essential component of any smile makeover that aims to "go big or go home." But were you aware that you can order a veneer of a particular type from one of several other categories? Our cosmetic dentist in Summerlin may recommend either classic porcelain veneers or same-day veneers. Both of these alternatives are available to you.

bonding

With porcelain veneers, the material can be made to be as aesthetically pleasing and long-lasting as feasible. When we bond across your top front teeth (the teeth that are considered to be in your "smile zone"), we typically use them in groups of six or more. To complete the procedure, you will need approximately two consultations, and a ceramist will hand create each of the veneers individually. After they have been put into place, it will appear as though you have a whole new grin.

Same-day veneers are a tiny bit different than traditional veneers. They are molded chairside out of composite material, not porcelain, as opposed to being manufactured of porcelain (like white fillings.) This allows you the ability to swiftly cover up a tooth that has a surface imperfection, such as a stain or a chip in the enamel, which may be a very embarrassing situation. If you do this, then when you grin, there won't be a single tooth that sticks out from the others. Instead, it has a homogeneous appearance and is easy to mistake for the others. Composite veneers, on the other hand, do not have the same level of durability as porcelain veneers, and the material itself is somewhat more opaque. Because of this, Dr. Cohan will only recommend them when there are only one or two teeth that require attention, rather than when there are multiple teeth that require attention at the same time.

Whiter Teeth in Record Time

It has never been a secret that professional teeth bleaching methods provide a brighter smile than treatments that can be purchased over the counter. But if our personalized take-home whitening solution isn't fast enough for your needs — for example, if you have an unexpected job interview or blind date that came up — you always have the option of undergoing a same-day whitening treatment if you need your teeth whitened right away.

During an in-office bleaching procedure, our Summerlin cosmetic dentist will apply a highly concentrated whitening gel to your teeth, after which they will utilize a specialized light to speed up the process of stain release and oxidation. After that, the gel is removed by rinsing, and the process is repeated a few more times until your tooth enamel is as white as it can possibly be.

After you have finished a session of same-day whitening, the brightness of your teeth is comparable to what you would observe with a take-home system. However, you can still utilize custom trays to continue whitening or to touch up your results as necessary.

IMG 8503

Before undergoing any other kind of cosmetic dentistry treatment, our Summerlin cosmetic dentist typically advises having your teeth whitened first. Why? Because Dr. Cohan intends to make new restorations, such as porcelain crowns or white fillings, blend in with the color of your teeth as closely as possible. Because those materials cannot be bleached off at a later time, they would have to be replaced in order to get the desired effect of a whiter smile. It is preferable to begin with a brilliant enamel right from the beginning of the process.

Gum Recontouring, often known as "Gummy Smile Treatments"

The appearance of small teeth can be caused by excessive gingiva (gums). When you smile, people may actually see more of your gums than they do of your teeth. When you grin with your gums showing, it may appear as though your mouth is not healthy or that your teeth are unattractive, but in truth, your mouth and your teeth are perfectly healthy and gorgeous.

Your gum tissues can be repositioned and reshaped with the use of a gentle laser by our Summerlin cosmetic dentist in order to address this aesthetic challenge. You can get the appearance of having teeth that are fuller in only one appointment by having the gums reshaped so that a greater portion of the tooth enamel is exposed.

Recontouring of the gums is routinely performed in conjunction with a number of other procedures, including...

Cosmetic Bonding in dentistry as well as contouring of the teeth

Sometimes the spacing between our teeth is just naturally irregular. The biting edges don't always match up with the neighboring edges, giving the appearance that your teeth are misshapen or that their sizes are inconsistent. In point of fact, your teeth are in immaculate condition! It's even possible that they have no crookedness whatsoever. This is when the expertise of our Summerlin cosmetic dentist comes into play. Dr. Cohan is able to undertake conservative tooth contouring and bonding procedures in order to assist smooth out, build up, or even out regions so that the shape of your smile seems to flow in a line that is smooth and even from one side of your mouth to the other. Bonding is an excellent treatment option for fixing minor flaws like chipped or gapped teeth.

The fact that bonding and contouring aren't painful, expensive, or time-consuming is probably the nicest thing about them. In most cases, there is no requirement for numbing.

Which option is the most suitable for you? Make an appointment with our Summerlin cosmetic dentist as soon as possible to find out more.

Why Replacing Your Missing Teeth Is Important

August 31, 2022
missing teeth

Why It Is Critical to Replace Any Missing Teeth You May Have

A mouth that is healthy acts like a well-oiled machine because it gives you an appealing smile, the capacity to chew food properly, skin that looks youthful, and the ability to articulate yourself correctly.

When you start to lose teeth, not only does this throw off the balance in your mouth, but it also causes your oral environment's integrity to become damaged. Because of this, you should strongly consider making an appointment with our Summerlin dentist so that you can learn the most effective technique to replace any teeth that are currently missing in your mouth.

The Consequences of Having Missing Teeth

It is possible that you will have some of these negative side effects if you do not get your missing teeth replaced.

Your Teeth Have Been Shifting Recently

The teeth in your mouth have a natural tendency to grind against one another. When you have a tooth extracted, you are left with a significant gap in your smile, which the teeth that are still in your mouth will attempt to fill by sliding into the void. This is not the case, despite the fact that it may seem perfect. The teeth do not move in a pattern that is correctly aligned with one another. Instead, the remaining teeth will begin to tilt inward, which will lead to a misalignment of all of your teeth as well as the formation of small gaps in between each of them.

This shifting, which is among the most typical adverse effects of missing teeth, is something that takes place over the course of time. When you look back a few years after you've lost your teeth, you'll become aware of how much change has occurred within your mouth, even if at first you might not even realize it's happening. In fact, you might not even realize it's happening at all. Because of the narrow gaps that exist between your teeth, not only will your smile appear less appealing, but your teeth will also become more prone to trapping food.

It's Not Easy to Brush Your Teeth the Right Way

One of the negative impacts of tooth loss is a reduction in one's capacity to adequately care for their remaining teeth by brushing and flossing. It can be quite difficult to maneuver your toothbrush into all of the positions necessary to efficiently remove plaque from your mouth if you have gapped teeth that are at different angles. If you have this problem, your dentist may recommend getting braces. You run the danger of developing foul breath, gum disease, and tooth decay if the plaque and tartar buildup on your teeth is not removed properly.

There is an Uneven Distribution of Workload

Because of the way your mouth was constructed, each of your teeth serves a distinct purpose. For instance, your front teeth are responsible for biting into soft foods like doughnuts, while your canines are responsible for tearing tougher items like meat, and your back teeth are responsible for chewing the meal and breaking it down so that it may be readily swallowed and properly digested.

The absence of teeth creates an uneven distribution of labor in the body's otherwise efficient machine. Your remaining teeth are forced to perform the functions of the teeth that are no longer present, even though this is not something that they were intended to do in the first place. For instance, if you are missing your back teeth, you will need to eat with your front teeth rather than your back ones... due to the fact that they are not as strong as back teeth, they are more likely to sustain damage such as chipping and breaking.

Your facial characteristics are always evolving.

The form of your face is maintained by the teeth and bone in your face. When teeth start to fall out, the bone in your jaw begins to degrade, which causes your face to start looking sunken in and droopy. In addition to this, the creases in your face are more pronounced, which makes you look older and more exhausted.

Communication Difficulties

Your teeth are also a large part of the reason why you are able to produce particular sounds and correctly enunciate words. If you lose one or more of your teeth, you may find that your speech becomes slurred and that you are unable to make certain sounds, such as the sounds that are made when your tongue hits your teeth.

The Most Effective Way to Replace Teeth That Have Been Lost

missing teeth

After receiving the news that you need to have a tooth extracted, you should make an appointment with our Summerlin dentist as soon as possible to discuss the many alternatives for tooth replacement.

Dental implants are considered by many to be the most effective method for replacing missing teeth. This is due to the fact that implants are just as strong as, if not stronger than, your natural grin. On the other hand, when it comes to many replacements or the restoration of the entire mouth, some people choose an alternative that is more cost-effective. We are happy to inform you that, in addition to the traditional methods of tooth replacement, there are additional alternatives to consider, and we are here to assist you in locating the solution that best accommodates your requirements as well as your financial constraints.

For instance, if you don't have enough bone to support a dental implant, you won't be able to have one. In this case, you might want to think about getting a dental bridge instead, which is a solution that is permanent, appears natural, and can last for a very long time.

A removable partial denture is an option that could be beneficial for people who are looking for a way to replace multiple teeth that is also within their financial means. This appliance stays in place by encircling your existing teeth, and it fills in the spaces in your mouth with prefabricated teeth that are designed to enhance the appearance of your smile.

Find out more about the different tooth replacement options you have.

Visit Dr. Cohan, our Summerlin dentist, to discuss the various choices available to you for the replacement of missing teeth.

Dr. Cohan and the rest of the friendly team at Summerlin Dental Solutions are excited to guide you through the steps of the procedure and make sure that you are satisfied with the end result. Give us a call right now to set up an appointment for a consultation.

How to Get a Younger Looking Smile: The Secret to a Smile That Will Make You Look Ten to Twenty Years Younger

August 30, 2022
younger

A number of factors, including the quality of your teeth and mouth, can have a big influence on your overall appearance. When combined with smile wrinkles, teeth that are yellowed or worn down might make you appear older than you really are. You are in luck because there are a few things that our dentist in Summerlin recommends you try in order to obtain a smile that makes you seem years younger and feel better about yourself. This can be accomplished with a little bit of work on your part.

1. To improve the appearance of the fullness of your lips, use cosmetic fillers.

The loss of volume in your lips is a common side effect of getting older, and if you've noticed that your lips aren't as full as they used to be, then you've witnessed one of the typical effects that comes along with getting older. In order for your lips to restore the fullness they previously had, you should talk to your physician about injectable lip fillers. These fillers provide volume to the area around your lips. This dental cosmetic surgery does not have any inherent risks, only requires a short period of time, and produces effects that last for a few months at a time.

2. Eliminate Lip Wrinkles

When some individuals make particular movements with their mouths, the skin that surrounds their lips can generate lines, giving the appearance that their lips are aged and wrinkled as a result.

Combining Botox, which "freezes" the muscles to prevent them from producing those lines in the first place by preventing them from contracting, with dermal fillers, which fill in the surface, is an effective way to get rid of these creases. Dermal fillers fill in the surface, while Botox fills in the surface.

Static lines are the name given to the deep, permanent creases that develop around the mouth and chin over time. Laser treatments are the only way to remove static wrinkles; injectables like Botox and other procedures that are functionally equivalent will not work.

3. Quit Smoking

The decrease in blood circulation that occurs as a direct result of smoking speeds up the natural aging process and makes it more likely that wrinkles will appear. Wrinkles around the mouth area of a smoker's face tend to be more pronounced than wrinkles in other areas of the face because smokers regularly draw their lips together over their cigarettes.

4. Use bleach to lighten the color of your teeth.

The foods and beverages that a person consumes on a regular basis cause their teeth to yellow and become discolored as they get older. It is strongly suggested that you discuss the possibility of bleaching your teeth with a cosmetic dentist if you want to improve the overall appearance of your smile. There are some over-the-counter products that work effectively, but if you want the best results, you should use a professional whitening solution, which our dentist in Summerlin can provide for you free of charge. There are some over-the-counter products that work effectively. There are some products available without a prescription that perform really well. You have the choice of doing your bleaching treatment in the convenience of your own home or coming to our office, where we will do it for you in only one hour. Either way, you will achieve the same results!

5. Realign Your Teeth to Their Proper Position

If you have crooked teeth, it can really cause your smile to look old before its time because of the wear and tear it puts on your teeth. Straightening them will result in a more appealing and uniform appearance for you, which has the potential to make you look years younger than you actually are. The good news is that in order to obtain orthodontic treatment, it will not be necessary for you to wear metal braces at any point during the process. The majority of people in today's society are opting to undergo orthodontic treatment in the form of Invisalign clear aligner therapy in order to realign their teeth properly. You can use this method to straighten your smile by wearing trays that are almost unnoticeable over your teeth. These trays will help to move your teeth into their proper position. Invisalign can straighten your teeth in even less time than it takes for traditional braces to do so. Check with our Summerlin dental office to determine whether you qualify for the discount on your dental work.

6. Fight Back Against the Gum Depression with Some Action

Brushing your teeth excessively aggressively, grinding your teeth, and smiling in a way that doesn't line your teeth properly are some of the behaviors that might contribute to gum recession. As your gums begin to recede, you will be able to view the bases of your teeth, also known as the roots. Because of their dark coloring, one gets the feeling that they have been grinning for a very long time.

You have two options available to you for the treatment of gum recession: you can either have a gum graft placed, in which we fill in the missing gum tissue on your teeth, or you can have the worn areas filled in with a filling substance that matches the color of your teeth. Both of these procedures can be performed by your dentist.

When you brush your teeth, choose a toothbrush that has soft bristles and avoid exerting too much pressure. This will help prevent any further loss of gum tissue that may occur in the future. You may also give some thought to getting an electric toothbrush instead of a traditional manual one. If you are someone who grinds their teeth while sleeping, it is critical that you use a nightguard to protect the enamel on your teeth from being worn down. Nightguards can be purchased over-the-counter, but the nightguards that our dentist in Summerlin can provide for you will have a superior fit and will be designed precisely for your teeth. Nightguards can also be purchased online.

7. Have your teeth filled with white fillings rather than silver fillings.

younger smile

It's possible that your grin will create the impression that you have gray and black teeth if you have silver fillings in the teeth that are visible when you smile. After having these old amalgam fillings removed and replaced with new ones that are the same color as your teeth, your smile will have the appearance of having been refreshed by several years.

8. Have any missing teeth replaced as soon as possible.

It's important for the facial structures to have all of your teeth in the right spots so they can provide support. If you start to lose your teeth, you'll also start to lose bone in your jaw, which will cause your cheeks to look sunken in and older than they really are. This happens because tooth loss causes bone loss in the jaw. This is due to the fact that tooth loss and bone loss occur at the same time.

Dental implants and bridges are two options for permanently replacing teeth that have been lost. Both of these procedures can be performed by a dentist. If you are missing a significant number of teeth and have a limited financial budget, one solution to consider is getting a removable partial denture.

9. Have a total transformation performed on your toothy grin.

In addition to other procedures, getting porcelain veneers placed on your teeth is something you should think about doing if you want to make the most significant change to your appearance that you can. Veneers are wafer-thin pieces of porcelain that are created to your specifications and then attached to the front of your natural teeth. Veneers can improve the appearance of your smile by making your teeth appear whiter and brighter. This operation can straighten and correct your grin in just a handful of consultations, while also making the shade look substantially more desirable.

10. Don't Forget to Keep a Positive Attitude at All Times

Smiling is the simplest and most cost-effective way to create the impression that you are younger than you really are. When people smile, they give off the impression of being friendlier, more beautiful, and more fun to be around. This hypothesis has been supported by research.

A Comparison of Dental Veneers vs Dental Crowns

August 27, 2022

A comparison of dental veneers vs dental crowns, along with advice at your Summerlin Dental Office

veneers vs crown

PEOPLE ASK:

What are the most significant distinctions that exist between veneers and dental crowns?

What is the cost, technique, and benefits associated with both veneers and crowns.

Should I get veneers or crowns?

CLICK HERE TO SCHEDULE YOUR APPOINTMENT !

Crowns or veneers for your teeth? Oh, my! You've identified a problem with your teeth that has to be addressed, but how can you determine when to go in for which procedure? Consult with your dentist to determine the best course of action. However, if you are interested in learning more about each procedure for your personal purposes, continue reading to learn how to pick between veneers and crowns as well as a comparison of the two procedures at your Summerlin Dental Office.

What are veneers?

To begin, you will need to have a complete comprehension of what each procedure includes. Dental veneers are similar to “wafers” in appearance and are bonded to the surface of the front teeth. Porcelain or composite are two examples of the materials that may be used to construct them. The most durable veneers are made of porcelain, but they are also the most costly.

veneers

In order to prepare the front surface of your tooth for the veneer, your dentist will first grind away a little portion of the enamel. This helps the veneer adhere more securely to the tooth by roughening the surface of the enamel of the tooth. In addition to this, it creates room on the front of your tooth for the veneer, which will have a thickness of around 1 millimeter.

After that, at your best cosmetic dentist in Summerlin we will either digitally scan your teeth or develop an impression of them in order to have veneers produced. If your dentist has a machine in the office, then the procedure can be performed on the same day. Or, it will be shipped off to the laboratory, and you will need to return in 1-2 weeks when the veneers are ready to be glued into place.

In the field of cosmetic dentistry, veneers are the treatment of choice for addressing a variety of aesthetic concerns. For instance, teeth that are slightly misaligned or chipped. If your teeth have become significantly discolored and the conventional methods of tooth whitening are not producing the desired results, you may be able to restore your beautiful smile by having veneers placed over all of your front teeth. This will change the color of your teeth and give you back your radiant smile.

It is important to keep in mind that the application of veneers is not a reversible process because of the reduction that is required to create space for the thin layer of material. If one of your veneers is broken or has gotten discolored, the only method to repair it is to replace it with a new one.

And what exactly are crowns?

When comparing porcelain crowns with veneers, there is an important distinction that needs to be made. Dental crowns are regarded to be a restorative procedure whereas veneers are believed to be simply aesthetic dentistry procedures. They totally encapsulate the tooth, much like a small cap that goes over the top, rather than merely placing a thin coating on the front surface of the tooth.

In most cases, they are employed when the natural tooth structure has been compromised due to the presence of a significant cavity, infection, or fracture caused by a blow to the tooth. Crowns can be placed on any tooth, although they are most commonly seen on the back molars. Veneers, on the other hand, are only ever used on the front teeth.

Your natural tooth will need to be reduced in size and reshaped by the dentist before a crown can be placed on it. Additionally, the dentist will need to get the surface of the tooth ready for bonding. After the tooth structure has been prepared, your dentist will either take a digital scan of it or build a mold of it in order to create a crown that is a precise fit. To reiterate, this might take place in the comfort of one's own workplace or be sent out to a separate laboratory.

crowns

If you need to wait a few weeks for the permanent crown, your dentist will most likely place a temporary crown on your tooth in the meanwhile. While you wait for the permanent crown to be constructed, you will be able to eat and speak without any discomfort thanks to this solution.

Which one, veneers or crowns, is more long-lasting?

The longevity of any choice is contingent upon a number of variables, including the skill of your dentist and the degree to which you maintain good oral hygiene.

Another significant factor is the material that you decide to use. Whereas composite veneers may only last between 5 and 7 years, porcelain veneers have a lifespan of between 10 and 15 years.

Many different kinds of materials may be used to construct crowns. Since the beginning of dentistry, gold and alloys of gold have been utilized. This practice dates back thousands of years. Metal crowns are extremely durable and can continue to look beautiful for decades. The most obvious drawback is the fact that you are walking around with a piece of metal in your mouth. Molars are the teeth that often get these crowns put on them.

Dental veneers: Their types, pricing, procedures, and what you may expect from them

Crowns made of porcelain can be crafted to look just like a patient's actual teeth, but they are more brittle. These are often placed on the front teeth in order to improve their appearance.

Crowns made of porcelain that are bonded over a metal alloy combine the benefits of both materials, giving you the best of both worlds. Unfortunately, a thin strip of metal may frequently be seen around the gum line.

How well you care for your teeth will have a substantial impact on how long both of these dental procedures will continue to be effective. Always be sure to clean your teeth and floss on a daily basis, and steer clear of using your teeth as cutting implements, particularly if you have veneers placed on your front teeth. Additionally, do not forget to schedule an appointment with your dentist and to go see them at least twice year.

veneers

Which comes with a higher price tag: veneers or crowns?

The term "Hollywood smile" is commonly used to refer to veneered teeth. They are done for the express goal of improving a person's appearance and may be rather pricey, especially when numerous teeth need to be treated at the same time.

On the other hand, veneers are significantly thinner than crowns. Dental crowns cover the entire tooth, whereas veneers just cover the visible portion of the tooth in front of the gum line.

If you follow that line of reasoning, you would anticipate that the cost of veneers, in comparison to that of crowns, would be lower. In most cases, yes, they are. A porcelain veneer can cost anywhere from $925 to $2,500 per tooth, with the average price falling somewhere in the middle. Veneers produced from composite materials are available for far less money, ranging from $250 to $1,500 per square foot, but you shouldn't expect them to last as long.

The price of a porcelain crown can range anywhere from $1,000 to $3,500 for a single tooth. And that doesn't even take into account the price of the root canal or any of the other dental treatments that may need to be done before the crown can be placed.

Having said that, there is a significant distinction between the two that you should be aware of. The application of veneers is regarded as solely a cosmetic surgery. Therefore, dental insurance will, in most cases, not cover them.

However, crowns are typically utilized in situations where there is a dental issue with the tooth. They can be used to support and protect a tooth that has a significant cavity, or they can be used to keep together a tooth that has been fractured or damaged.

As a consequence of this, dental insurance will often pay for a portion of or the entire surgery.

What are the benefits and drawbacks of getting veneers versus crowns?

When there are no other dental issues present, veneers are an excellent choice for improving the appearance of one's teeth. It may only be necessary to perform a limited amount of reduction, depending on the kind of veneer, which will result in more of your natural tooth structure being preserved.

Unluckily, veneers will need to be changed when they begin to show signs of wear and tear. Because the procedure cannot be reversed, once you decide to go through with it, you will be required to take care of the results for the rest of your life. Because they do not cover the entirety of your tooth, they leave your natural tooth open to the risk of developing cavities. On the other hand, maintaining good oral hygiene can considerably reduce the risks associated with this.

Crowns made of porcelain are designed to mimic the look and feel of real teeth. In addition, the cap covers the whole of the tooth, so shielding it from the effects of dental decay. Crowns are generally covered by dental insurance when they are put for medical reasons because of their long-lasting nature.

Crowns made of metal are more durable than those made of porcelain, which looks more natural but is more brittle. The use of porcelain over metal can be a fantastic choice; nevertheless, you will need to live with a thin black line at the base of the porcelain. In order to prepare the location for a crown, you will need to have more of your natural tooth ground down. Crowned teeth are known to be more sensitive to extremes of temperature.

Concerning crowns and veneers, here are some questions to ask your Summerlin Dental dentist.

You should now have a clearer understanding of what both of these processes entail. Be careful to have a conversation with your Summerlin dentist about these concerns before making a decision about which treatment option is best for you.

How many more years should I anticipate my dental crown to last?

Your dentist will be able to provide you with a more accurate forecast of what to anticipate with the materials that they will select for the surgery.

After the procedure, do you have any recommendations for extra care to take?

Brushing and flossing your teeth at least once a day will always be required for optimum oral health. In addition to scheduling two appointments with your Summerlin Dental dentist in your area per year.

Are adjustments to the fit of the crowns included in the price?

Crowns have a tendency to shift slightly after placement, which might throw off your bite. You have the ability to modify them, but you should be aware of any additional costs involved.

What additional possibilities are there to choose from?

If you desire veneers but are concerned about the expense, you might want to consider getting Lumineers instead. This form of veneer is less thick and more affordable than others, but it does not usually conceal severe tooth damage or discoloration.

Dental bonding is a method that can be better suitable for fixing fractured teeth. During this procedure, your dentist will use a specific type of composite resin to rebuild the tooth and replace the area that was lost.

It is possible that extracting a tooth that is seriously damaged and having it replaced with a dental implant would be a better course of action than placing a crown over the tooth.

Are you prepared for an amazing smile?

Rejoice in the fact that contemporary dentistry provides us with so many wonderful alternatives, whichever treatment you decide to go with. Everyone has the potential to achieve the sparkling smile of their dreams if dental care is made more accessible and inexpensive.

Three (3) Things to Consider During a Smile Makeover

August 21, 2022

Getting your teeth whitened and straightened is only part of what's involved in getting a smile makeover. When it comes to achieving the most gorgeous smile possible, there are a variety of aspects that need to be taken into consideration. You can be basing your view on the attractiveness of specific teeth, but without even realizing it, you might be looking for things that aren't there or that are there but aren't visible.

When you come in for a smile makeover at Summerlin Dental Solutions in Las Vegas, Nevada, there are a few primary factors that will determine the final outcome of your treatment. Even while our cosmetic dentist in Summerlin will explicitly need to treat certain problems, the way in which all of those components work together to create a beautiful smile is what is most important.

1. The Frame Around Your Teeth

smile makeover

There is more to a beautiful smile makeover than just one's teeth. In addition to this, it is connected to the "frame" of connective tissue that surrounds them. The volume of your lips, the level at which they lay on your teeth, and even the contour of your gum tissues (gingiva) can all play a part in how your smile seems to others.

As part of a smile makeover, Dr. Cohan may choose to integrate soft tissue therapy on occasion. Examples of this include gum recontouring for patients with short-looking teeth or "gummy" grins. When we make adjustments to the shape of the borders of your gums, we can improve the symmetry of your smile and make your teeth appear bigger as well as healthier.

To assist the lips and cheeks lay pleasantly around the teeth, cosmetic dentists will sometimes integrate injectables or fillers into the overall plan for a smile makeover. This is done for the sole purpose of improving the appearance of the smile makeover. Even the shade of lipstick you wear and the routine you follow to take care of your skin can have an effect on how pleasant your smile seems.

It is important to keep in mind the state of health of your gum tissues. Even if you have absolutely lovely teeth, if your gums are red, inflamed, bleeding, swollen, or receding, it will take away from the beauty of your smile. This is true even if you have healthy teeth. When periodontal disease goes untreated, it not only causes gums to become red or inflamed, but it also eventually results in the loss of teeth and bone. You can keep your gingiva healthy and tight like they are supposed to be if you schedule routine dental cleanings and address periodontitis early on. Your breath will also improve as an extra bonus to this treatment!

2. Taking Care of Teeth that Are Missing

Your diet, your ability to speak clearly, and the overall attractiveness of your smile can all be affected when you are missing teeth. Even if the teeth you're missing aren't visible because they're placed further back in your bite, the effects of their absence can still be felt in other parts of your body. For instance, the space that is created when a tooth is extracted may cause the surrounding teeth to shift out of position. It is also possible for teeth on the opposite arch to "super-erupt" into the open space, which would make it more difficult to properly align the teeth on the opposite arch.

The effects of bone resorption, often known as bone shrinkage, are another consideration. When you are missing teeth during a smile makeover, the bone in the surrounding area will start to recede and become less dense. As a consequence of this, a hollow area will develop in the soft tissues of your face as a result of your cheeks collapsing inward or your jaw appearing "shorter."

Dr. Cohan needs to make sure that all of your missing teeth are repaired with permanent and effective restorations so that you can have a bite that is both functional and appealing fro a smile makeover. However, we also take the situation a step farther. We treat teeth that are in danger of falling out by repairing damage or curing illness while there is still a chance that the tooth can be saved. You'll be able to store it safely for an extended period of time this way. When repairing broken or decayed teeth, we use restorations that are not only non-invasive but also aesthetically pleasing. Some examples include porcelain crowns and white fillings.

smile makeover

When it comes to the replacement of lost teeth, our dentist in Summerlin provides a variety of solutions, including fixed dental implants and porcelain bridges. Depending on the number of teeth that need to be restored, any one of them can be used on its own or in conjunction with the other. Your new bite will appear to be as natural as possible thanks to the exact adjustments made to the design.

3. Achieving Balance and Proportion in Your Smile

The human brain has a hardwired preference for symmetrical forms. When something is not symmetrical, it might give the impression that whatever it is being compared to is unbalanced or even unhealthy, depending on the context. You might be able to get away with an asymmetrical haircut, but it's highly unlikely that you would choose for your teeth to be in that position.

You should strive for perfection by having teeth that are white and straight, since this will provide the impression of symmetry. Every aspect of a tooth's appearance, from its color and biting edge to its overall shape, should be carefully considered. For a healthy appearance overall, it is important for the teeth to fit in with one another.

Invisalign, teeth whitening, dental bonding, recontouring, or even porcelain veneers could be among the treatments that Dr. Cohan recommends using for a smile makeover, depending on the nature of the symmetry concerns that need to be addressed. You will go closer to having the "ideal" smile as we work to make each tooth appear as though it belongs with the teeth around it.

5 Methods for Straighter Teeth

August 12, 2022

Everyone wants straighter teeth. Your self-confidence may suffer if you have teeth that are crowded, misaligned, or otherwise crooked. In addition to this, they make your smile appear more unhealthy than it actually is. If you would like your teeth to be straighter, you are in luck because you have various options from which to pick. While others require a little bit more time, some provide benefits almost immediately.

straighter

1. Invisalign

The use of orthodontic appliances to physically align one's teeth is the most effective method for improving the appearance of one's smile. But if you're like the majority of people, you're definitely looking for an alternative to traditional braces that is less noticeable. Invisalign was developed specifically for situations like this one.

invisalign-treatment

Summerlin Invisalign will straighten your teeth by using a series of removable, transparent aligner trays in pairs. The only thing you need to do is put them on for the allotted amount of time and then switch them out as recommended. In most cases, this is between 20 and 22 hours per day, which leaves you plenty of time to remove your dentures before meals or when you need to brush and floss your teeth.

You will go through each set of aligners in your series by moving on to the next pair of aligners every two weeks. When you do so, you will feel a light pressure forcing your teeth into the position that you want them to be in.

Your crooked smile is gradually being corrected right in front of your very eyes. There is no requirement for brackets or wiring! The best part is that you won't have to make as many trips to the orthodontist or stay there for as long as you would if you opted for traditional braces.

2. Composite Bonding

Dental bonding is a procedure that can conceal minor imperfections in teeth in a quick and effective manner. Bonding could be an option for you if you have a small space between your teeth, a chipped area, or misaligned teeth.

Bonding is sculpted onto the enamel and mixes in with the color of your natural smile, similar to how white fillings are shaped onto the enamel. It simply takes a few minutes to mould it to the tooth and cure it, so you can see the results the exact same day.

The majority of composite bonding may be made to endure for a few years before it needs to be replaced or modified. If you are thinking about having your teeth whitened, you should do so before your bonding operation so that we can get the composite to match your teeth as precisely as possible.

Bonding can be simply combined with other cosmetic treatments provided by Dr. Cohan, such as teeth whitening or crowns. As we determine what would work best for your smile as a whole, we will approach your transformation by focusing on each individual tooth. It may come down to something as straightforward as covering up a single imperfection in a single tooth at a time!

3. Dental Veneers

Dental veneers, which can sometimes be referred to as "instant braces," quickly cover the natural teeth that are located behind them, giving the appearance of considerably straighter teeth.

Veneers are thin shells made of porcelain that are bonded to the front surfaces of a few of the teeth in your smile. Typically, it is the six to eight upper front teeth, however this number can vary depending on the width of your grin. Because Dr. Cohan is able to make adjustments to the form of each veneer before it is cemented into place, we are able to have them fabricated in a manner that might make crooked teeth appear to be straighter (no braces required.)

In addition, porcelain veneers can be utilized to change the length, width, and even contour of a person's teeth. If you have a tooth that is slightly narrow (which can cause gaps between teeth) or too short, the veneer can fill in those areas to make your tooth appear to have the ideal shape. When planning the form and color of each one-of-a-kind veneer, we take into account the specific requirements of each individual customer.

When we plan, craft, and finally place your final restorations, we will need multiple appointments in order to finish a whole case of dental veneers.

4. Crowns Made of Ceramic

Dental crowns, sometimes known as "caps," are an excellent restoration option for teeth whose enamel has been significantly worn down, chipped, or is otherwise improperly shaped. If you have a tooth that, as a result of previous damage, presents an irregular or crooked appearance, a crown can be the best answer for you to make your teeth straighter.

Crowns are dental restorations that cover the whole visible portion of a tooth, including the gum tissue and bone that surround it. Dr. Cohan will have each crown created so that it mimics the shade and contour of the teeth on either side of the affected tooth. This will ensure that the restored tooth blends in seamlessly with the rest of your now straighter smile.

When a tooth is lost, it can be replaced with a dental implant, which can then have a crown placed on top of it making the teeth straighter.

image01

Because each crown is crafted uniquely in a laboratory, we are able to improve the appearance of your tooth's alignment. By merely correcting one particular tooth, the finished product will have a more symmetrical appearance and will transition more smoothly from one tooth to the next.

5. Take Care of the Spotting and Discoloration

The presence of shadows and stains in your teeth might give the appearance that they are crooked even if they are not. It's possible that certain sections of your tooth have a dark stain, while others have white patches that stand out more from the tooth around them. Reducing these will give you the appearance of straighter teeth.

When light strikes your teeth at a particular angle, the points in your enamel will create an optical illusion that gives the impression that your teeth are twisted or tilted.

Discoloration can be eliminated with the help of specialized cosmetic treatments, which we can use to address these difficulties. For instance, having your teeth whitened professionally, undergoing the ICON white spot treatment, or having composite bonding done can all produce very noticeable effects.

TikTok and Teeth Filing: A Look at The Dangers of This Growing Trend

August 10, 2022

Teeth filing at home? The COVID-19 Pandemic caused an extreme rise in people turning to at-home procedures in order to stay safely in the comfort of their home. One of these at-home procedures became a TikTok trend. TikTok and at-home teeth filing: is it safe? Let’s discuss.

filing

When considering whether or not to file your teeth at home, it's important to consider the benefits, drawbacks, and any health risks.

Filing teeth is known in the dental field as enameloplasty. This process calls for the careful removal of a negligible amount of enamel from the teeth's outer surface. Dentists with the skills and training to use a sanding tool, laser, or other piece of equipment to alter the sides or surface of a patient's teeth do the procedure, which is also known as teeth shaving or recontouring.

Benefits, costs, and risks linked with tooth filing, as well as the newest TikTok trends, will all be covered in this article.

As for the benefits, or explanations for its popularity, teeth contouring:

There are several situations in which improving one's smile by changing its appearance might be a positive move. A few flaws in your smile could be something you'd like to see improved. Your bite may be crooked, your molars may have rough spots, and you may have issues with the length, smoothness, or shape of individual teeth.

Dental filing is a popular method of corrective dentistry for both medical and cosmetic reasons.

Tooth contouring (filing) has various medical benefits, including a decreased incidence of tooth decay due to the elimination of tiny overlaps between teeth. Tooth contouring helps even out your bite, which can prevent or alleviate jaw pain, and is a necessary step in preparing your teeth for a crown (following a root canal).

The cosmetic advantages of teeth filing include a more attractive smile with fewer faults, increased assurance in one's appearance, an inexpensive solution to minor dental repairs or uneven teeth, and a boost in one's confidence.

Several factors, including health and aesthetics, contribute to the widespread practice of tooth filing. You may be a good candidate for this inexpensive smile makeover if you have a single tooth that is significantly larger than the others or is crooked you would consider filing. Getting your teeth whitened by a cosmetic dentist is as easy as snapping a photo and sending it over.

Wondering whether there were any risks along with teeth filing?
filing

To change the shape of a tooth, a dentist will file it down. This technique has a low potential for complications.

Concerns center on the risk of enamel erosion, which can result in tooth damage. The softer dentin layer and the dental nerve are protected by this hard outer layer of the tooth. The protective properties of enamel make it effective in warding off tooth decay and illness, medically known as caries.

Regrettably, this hardworking layer does not naturally regenerate. Once tooth enamel has been gone, it cannot be replaced. It's possible that issues like:

• heightened tooth sensitivity and pain would arise if too much enamel was lost

• teeth that are more prone to breaking;

• an increased risk of developing cavities.

It is crucial that a qualified professional who is familiar with the nature of tooth enamel and its sensitivity to damage perform this sensitive procedure.

It's becoming increasingly common, but potentially dangerous, for people to self-fillet their teeth using a nail file.

Dentists and orthodontists all around the United States are reeling from the current viral craze of DIY teeth filing with nail files. Without proper training, these people attempting filingmight use the wrong files to even out any bumps or irregularities in their teeth, which could have a negative impact on their oral health.

Experts in the dental field are speaking out against the trend on TikTok.

Incorrect tooth filing, according to the American Association of Orthodontists, can permanently alter a person's teeth and smile. Once the enamel that protects your teeth is worn away, you will never be able to get it back.

Without enamel protection, teeth become more vulnerable to sensitivity and even possible extraction. And this is especially true if the tooth was weak to begin with.

Even popular TikTok users have expressed shame at having their teeth shaved in public, pleading with their fans not to follow in their footsteps and become "DIY dentists."

Any time you're thinking of altering the appearance of your teeth, whether for cosmetic or functional reasons, it's a good idea to consult with a dentist first.

Fillings in teeth: frequently asked questions

While considering your options for dental care, you may be wondering if tooth contouring should be a part of your treatment.

Some answers to frequently asked questions about enameloplasty are provided here.

When obtaining braces or clear aligners, why is this surgery done first?

Shaving or otherwise shaping the patient's teeth before placing braces on them or utilizing a clear aligner system like Invisalign for orthodontic purposes is standard practice. In order to provide more space in your mouth for your teeth, your dentist or orthodontist may remove a small amount of enamel from your teeth.

With even a little bit of space to move, your teeth will be able to straighten and align themselves more easily with braces or a clear aligner.

Do you experience any pain during a tooth filling?

To answer your question directly: no. Your dentist won't be touching the sensitive dentin or the gum line while they work on your teeth because there are no nerve endings in the enamel. Also, you usually won't need any form of anaesthetic for filing your teeth, and the danger of side effects is negligible.

What is the going rate for having a tooth filed down?

Thankfully, having your teeth reshaped requires nothing more than your dentist's time, skill, and high-tech tools. This means it's a lot more cost-effective than alternatives, like as installing costly implants or performing extensive surgery, for enhancing one's smile's appearance.

The final cost of tooth contouring will depend on the extent of the necessary treatment and will vary greatly from one dental specialist to the next. Budget an average of $50 to $300 per tooth for dental work.

Does dental insurance pay for fillings?

Most dental insurance plans won't cover the cost of filling cavities unless it's medically essential due to an injury. Find out what policies your insurer offers and whether or not you qualify for coverage by getting in touch with them.

How much of the tooth's enamel is ground down?

teeth filing

Thanks to modern dental technology, your dentist can precisely calculate how much enamel needs to be trimmed off your teeth. Dentists typically remove between 0.2 and 0.5 mm of enamel from each tooth, however the actual amount will vary depending on the patient's goals and the tooth's unique structure.

If you're worried about the extent to which your enamel will be reshaped, it's best to discuss your concerns with your dentist before the operation begins. They'll have the information needed to provide a thorough explanation and make any necessary revisions.

What preventative measures against COVID-19 are required?

Fortunately, because to the evolution of medical practices over time, the dental industry is ready for the pandemic. Having any sort of dental procedure done, from teeth bleaching to tartar removal, tooth contouring, or a fundamental set of x-rays, should put your mind at ease, since there are established protocols in place to guarantee your safety.

If you feel better at peace knowing what specific measures your dentist will take to ensure your health during the pandemic, it may be helpful to discuss this with them in advance. You'll be better equipped to handle whatever comes your way as a result of this.

Hire a specialist to handle the job.

Researching the pros and cons of getting this dental work done, studying before and after pictures of the patient's teeth, and figuring out how much it will cost to have their teeth filed all lead up to the next step: consulting with dental professionals.

A qualified dentist will examine your teeth, explain your options, and rebuild the trouble spots in a way that won't harm your teeth or gums. Due to the severity of the potential consequences, this surgery must be performed under the supervision of an experienced medical expert.

Nationally, dentists acquire the training and instruction they need to do their jobs properly.

You should arrange an appointment with a dentist in your area who is willing to see new patients. You will be able to discuss your concerns, ask questions, and ultimately decide if this procedure is right for you.

Teeth contouring, whether for medical or cosmetic reasons, requires the expertise of a dentist, so don't do it on your own. Even just one trip to the dentist can give you the confidence that comes from knowing your options and how to safely achieve the best possible results.

Avoid the temptation to make changes to your upper or lower teeth on your own; even if you have good intentions, you could easily do permanent damage. Put another way, you may end up needing even more extensive dental work down the road because of the short-term cosmetic goals you've set for yourself.

Why have toothbrushes made of charcoal seen such a surge in popularity in recent years? Do charcoal toothbrushes actually remove plaque? Activated charcoal is mixed into the bristles of a toothbrush that is called a charcoal toothbrush. The oxidation of coal, coconut shells, olive pits, and other materials that are chemically similar is the typical method used to produce them.

This results in the production of a fine grain powder, which is subsequently subjected to a high temperature in order to activate it. Because of this, the surface area is increased, and the porosity is increased as well.

What benefits does using a toothbrush made of charcoal offer?

So, what exactly is the big deal about using a toothbrush made of charcoal? Why should you think about moving from your current toothbrush to one that has charcoal added to it rather than just using a regular toothbrush? Using this form of a toothbrush, which isn't very commonly seen, does have the potential to bring about a few useful side effects.

hygiene toothbrushes

Teeth that are Whiter

Because of its effectiveness in whitening teeth, activated charcoal has garnered a lot of interest in recent years as a teeth-whitening agent. You may already be familiar with toothpaste or teeth whitening powders that make a point of highlighting the fact that they include activated charcoal in their marketing

Because the powder has a high absorption capacity, it is able to bond with the acidic constituents of beverages such as coffee, tea, and wine, which have a propensity to cause discoloration of the teeth over time. When it binds with these components, it pulls them off of your teeth, which assists in the removal of stains and helps to keep your lovely chompers whiter.

However, activated charcoal may be highly abrasive on your teeth, and if you clean your teeth too vigorously, it can cause damage to the enamel of your teeth. If you have teeth that are easily sensitive, you should stay away from anything that is abrasive, including charcoal.

Fewer microbes overall

Charcoal is said to have antibacterial characteristics, which might potentially reduce the number of bacteria that are currently dwelling on your toothbrush. For one study, for instance, the researchers provided each of the fifty participants with a charcoal toothbrush and requested that they use it to clean their teeth every day for one week. After that, a regular toothbrush was provided for them to use for the following seven days.

At the conclusion of the research project, the scientists were surprised to discover that regular toothbrushes contained double the amount of germs as charcoal toothbrushes had on their bristles.

What are the benefits of bacteria? Well, you don't enjoy getting cavities, right? An overabundance of harmful bacteria in your mouth is the root cause of dental problems such as cavities, periodontal disease, and other dental difficulties. If you take steps to reduce the number of germs in your mouth, you can help reduce the number of times you have dental problems.

If you question your Summerlin dental expert about the significance of maintaining a healthy bacterial balance for your oral health at your next visit to the dentist, they will tell you how vital it is.

Better air to breathe

In addition to issues with the teeth, bacteria is frequently the primary cause of foul breath. Eliminating or significantly reducing the number of bacteria that live in your mouth should help eliminate or significantly reduce any foul odors. However, this is not the only method in which using a charcoal toothbrush might aid with halitosis (foul breath).

Plaque is a material that is sticky and adheres to the outside of your teeth, giving a habitat for germs that are harmful to your oral health to grow and thrive. If plaque is not removed by your toothbrush, the germs will continue to thrive in this area.

It would appear that charcoal is capable of absorbing plaque in addition to the acidic components that might cause stains. Charcoal binds to the plaque and bacteria on a microscopic level to entirely remove the offending stuff from your mouth. A typical toothbrush may just scrape away the plaque that is on your teeth, but charcoal can remove the plaque and germs completely.

In one study, normal nylon toothbrushes and charcoal toothbrushes were put to the test to see which one was more effective at eradicating plaque. The findings of the study led the researchers to the conclusion that bristles impregnated with charcoal were superior at eliminating plaque and did not wear out as rapidly.

Are toothbrushes made with charcoal safe to use?

The idea of using toothbrushes that contain activated charcoal is a more recent one. This indicates that the consequences of utilizing them over a longer period has not been well researched as of yet.

There are a few factors that cause dental experts to stop, and as a result, many of them do not give their patients the go-ahead to use toothbrushes that include charcoal bristles. Before you use a charcoal tooth brush, you should consult your Summerlin dentist to get their professional advice on the advantages of utilizing one.

Let's have a look at a few of the issues that are associated with using this kind of toothbrush.

  1. Abrasiveness

Enamel on teeth is said to be far harder than bone, which is considered to be one of the toughest parts of the human body. Because of this, you would believe that it is difficult to harm in any way. Unfortunately, the answer is "yes," and one of the methods to do so is to consume excessive amounts of activated charcoal.

A fair amount of abrasion is caused by the charcoal powder. If you brush it over your teeth, especially for an extended period, it can erode away the enamel of your teeth. Remineralization is a process that can restore enamel that has lost its strength and bring it back to full health. On the other hand, enamel that has been worn away can never be restored to its previous state

As the enamel wears away, you run the risk of experiencing sensitive teeth and discoloration, which is the complete antithesis of what you were hoping to accomplish.

Because of this potential risk, the majority of dental professionals advise patients to avoid using dental products containing activated charcoal for an extended period of time.

  1. Messy

It's possible that you've already had this experience if you've ever used charcoal in the form of toothpaste or powder. Charcoal is a dark substance that tends to be untidy and does not get along well with white porcelain sinks.

When it comes to using activated charcoal dental goods, one of the least messy methods is to do it using a charcoal toothbrush. On the other hand, when the bristles wear out, the powder may begin to spill onto your sink from them.

Neither as effective nor as convenient as toothpaste or powders

Even while using a toothbrush to apply charcoal to your teeth would appear to be the most convenient and mess-free way to do so, there is a possibility that it will not be as effective.

CLICK HERE TO SCHEDULE YOUR APPOINTMENT !

After all, when you use charcoal toothpaste or powder, you're really adding more charcoal to your teeth with each use. You are using the same charcoal each time you brush your teeth if you use a toothbrush with charcoal bristles since the bristles are made of charcoal. This may reduce the efficiency of the charcoal.

Additionally, the bristles of your toothbrush will have a lower concentration of charcoal compared to the powder or toothpaste that you use.

Can you use a toothbrush made of charcoal on a daily basis?

The American Dental Association has not, sadly, bestowed its approval on charcoal toothbrushes and given them their stamp of approval. There are still far too many questions regarding them that have not been answered.

There is widespread worry among dental professionals that charcoal might be overly abrasive and cause damage to tooth enamel.

If you have veneers, dental bonding, crowns, or any other type of tooth restoration, dental specialists will tell you that you shouldn't use charcoal dental goods. They go so far as to state that you shouldn't use charcoal dental products at all

Even though they are durable, restorations are often not as tough as your original teeth and may be more prone to injury.

How long does the bristle life of a charcoal toothbrush typically last?

According to some research, charcoal toothbrushes wear out far less quickly than traditional toothbrushes. Does this mean that you no longer need to make it a point to get rid of your toothbrush after every three months as you normally do?

To be honest, no. Although the bristles might not wear down as quickly, they are still capable of gathering germs. Even if they acquire it at a lesser pace, you don't want to keep re-exposing your teeth to the same germs over and over again.

Even with charcoal, it is advised that you replace your toothbrush every three months, just like you should do with a traditional toothbrush or the head of an electric toothbrush.

What is the most effective toothbrush made of charcoal?

What if you're interested in giving it a shot? After all, using a charcoal toothbrush to whiten your teeth for a short period of time definitely won't create any long-term damage to your teeth.

In spite of all the criticism that surrounds electric toothbrushes, the majority of the most well-known brands in toothbrushes and dental supplies are developing their own models. Which toothbrush would you recommend that you use? Have a look at this list of the charcoal toothbrushes that have received the highest ratings.

  1. A Colgate 360 toothbrush with a soft charcoal bristle.

This popular option from a reputable brand features bristles that are tapered at the end, which enables a more thorough cleaning along the gumline. Your teeth, gums, cheeks, and tongue may all benefit from a good, thorough cleaning with the toothbrush.

  1. an Oral-B toothbrush with charcoal bristles

In order not to be outdone, the other major manufacturer of dental goods, Oral-B, have also developed its own kind of charcoal toothbrush.

The Power Tip bristles on this toothbrush are meant to reach areas of the mouth that are more difficult to access. Additionally, it comes with a cleanser for the mouth and cheeks.

  1. A toothbrush made of soft charcoal from the Dental Expert brand

On Amazon, you can get a pack of five of this extremely reasonably priced manual charcoal toothbrush. The toothbrush has bristles that are both lengthy and soft, allowing for greater cleaning power while also being as kind to your teeth as is humanly feasible.

  1.  toothbrush made of charcoal manufactured by bmbu

Have you ever given any consideration to the amount of plastic you dispose of every three months when you throw away your toothbrush? Buying this charcoal toothbrush from bmbu is a fantastic way to make more environmentally conscious decisions about your dental care.

The toothbrush is not composed of plastic but rather bamboo that has been collected in a responsible manner. The one significant drawback of this toothbrush is that, according to certain evaluations written by customers, the bristles can sometimes feel rather rigid.

  1. A Tranquilo toothbrush made of bamboo charcoal

Another environmentally friendly and biodegradable version with a bamboo handle is offered by Tranquilo. This one, like the bmbu, has bristles that are a little more rigid, but it is quite compact and simple to use in the very back of your mouth. The fact that it dries in a very short amount of time was another feature that reviewers praised.

The conclusion about toothbrushes made of charcoal

Before you make any changes to the items you use for your oral regimen, we at Summerlin Dental Solutions strongly advise you to discuss the matter with your dentist first.

Charcoal toothbrushes have the potential to whiten your teeth just as well as other types of whitening toothpaste, but there are alternative ways to whiten your teeth that are both safer and recommended by dental professionals that you may try instead.

After doing an examination of your mouth, a dental expert is in the greatest position to provide guidance on the treatment options that are suitable for your circumstances.

What distinguishes a great dentist from other dentists in Summerlin is the following:

  1. Seek for a dentist that will go above and beyond to help you feel more at ease while you are in their chair
  2. They will have a calmness and confidence when they are explaining your individual needs to you.
  3. They have a patient way of explaining procedures to you

There are excellent dentists and there are brilliant dentists in the dental profession. And how can you identify the difference between the two?

Even more crucial, how can you go about finding a fantastic dentist right away?

When it comes to dentists, it is not like finding a hairdresser; you can't keep going to various ones every few weeks until you discover the one that works for you.

The following are ten characteristics to look for in a Summerlin cosmetic dentist:
  1. They have excellent google ratings.

The ability to get information from other patients about a certain dentist is now more accessible than ever. A fantastic dentist will have a long list of positive reviews. It is always possible for even the greatest dentist to get a negative rating from a patient who came in on a particularly poor day. If the majority of reviews couldn't say enough excellent things about the dentist, though, you can be certain that you've chosen a winner.

2. they take the time to educate you at each step of your check-up.

The majority of us are not dental professionals and so have minimal knowledge of dentistry-related topics (beyond basic dental hygiene, of course).

  • A qualified dentist can perform a terrific job on your teeth without ever having to explain anything to you about what they're doing.

In contrast, an excellent dentist will go above and beyond to educate you on the importance of good oral health. You will feel more at ease and in charge of your dental health if you are familiar with the basics of dentistry, even if it is not something you "need to know."

3) They keep track of your progress during the visit.

By checking in on their patients on a regular basis during the dental session, an excellent Summerlin dentist near me may assist to put their patients at ease. They inquire as to how they are feeling and whether or not they are comfortable.

The importance of this has always been significant, but it is much more so during the COVID-19 epidemic. Patients may be experiencing more anxiety about going to the dentist, as well as increased worries about their health and safety. That is where dentists who are aware of this and actively work to alleviate their patients' anxiety distinguish themselves from other dental professionals.

  1. They explain why it is necessary to have follow-up therapy.

A skilled dentist might take the easy way out and just offer follow-up treatment to his or her patients. Then they leave it up to you to decide whether or not to follow their recommendations. Unfortunately, you will be left to make a choice regarding follow-up therapy on your own, which you may or may not completely comprehend at this time.

A good dentist will take the time to explain what the follow-up treatment will entail and how it will benefit you. They also explain how it will affect your body over time - whether or not you return for treatment.

You will be more inclined to return for the therapy you need after receiving a more thorough explanation.

  1. Their workplace is equipped with cutting-edge technology.

Tooth technology advances at a breakneck pace – which is why we have so many excellent new treatments to ensure good dental health for everyone.

Being content with outdated dental technology is not always a negative thing. Much of it is still applicable, and newer methods may not always be the best choice for you, depending on your individual circumstances.

A great dentist, on the other hand, will stay on top of the latest developments, constantly keeping their patients' dental health in mind. A dental office that is equipped with the most up-to-date technology reveals to you that your dentist has the tools and expertise necessary to meet all of your dental requirements.

  1. They are open and clear about their infection control measures.

It is much more important now than ever before for them to maintain their workplaces tidy. Furthermore, it is a good idea to illustrate to patients the precautions that are being taken to ensure everyone's safety. Everything from temperature checks to hand sanitizing stations to individually wrapped and sterilized dental instruments may be done to keep patients and employees safe in the dental office setting.

  1. They pay attention!

If a dentist has a bad bedside manner, they might quickly deteriorate into a mediocre dentist. In order to guarantee that all of their patients feel heard and valued, a fantastic dentist will go above and beyond. Every patient, rather of being treated as a number on a record, should be treated as a person.

Girl-with-hat-300x261
  1. They are dedicated to their vocation and to their patients' welfare.

A successful dental office may bring in a substantial amount of money. If we're being really honest, there are undoubtedly a lot of dentists out there who were lured to the profession because of the potential compensation they might make.

The finest dentists, on the other hand, will not be lured to the field because of the money. Instead, they will actually care about their work and about the people that come into contact with them.

  1. They make themselves more human.

Dental anxiety is a significant issue. Dental anxiety affects more than a third of the population, which is a significant proportion of the population. A total of 12 percent of the population is terrified of going to the dentist.

Having a dentist who acknowledges and understands dental anxiety is essential if you suffer from this condition. Dentists are always surrounded by dental offices and dentistry gear, and they have no apprehension about the instruments or processes. A excellent dentist, on the other hand, is able to take a step back and comprehend where you're coming from in your situation.

  1. The fact that they don't make you feel terrible for postponing visits is a plus.

It is recommended that you see the dentist on a frequent basis in order to maintain good dental health. This corresponds into once every six months for the majority of individuals. But, of course, things happen in life. Assuming you're like the majority of individuals, you've most likely put off going to the dentist at least once in your lifetime.

There are a variety of reasons why you would put off a dentist appointment. Fear and worry are often at the top of the list, but you may also be concerned about finances or just be too busy and haven't taken the time. When it comes to dentistry, a skilled dentist knows where you're coming from. They'll gently urge you to return soon for your next visit, but they won't chastise you for taking such a long time to return.

If you suffer from dental anxiety, a good dentist will be able to help you overcome your fears. The TV screen might be a basic one mounted on the ceiling to provide you with some entertainment during your stay. The dentist may also suggest more powerful methods of easing your discomfort, such as nitrous oxide (laughing gas), sedation, or medicines that put you to sleep for a brief period of time.

They may also be able to give you a payment plan if finances are an issue for you. This would make dental appointments more inexpensive for you.

What is the best way to locate a fantastic dentist in your area? Give us a call today at Summerlin Dental Solutions to schedule a consultation with Dr. Cohan in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Take notice of how much time the dentist commits to operations that are part of his or her aesthetic dental practice. What is Tooth Enamel?

When you have dental problems, it's important to understand the distinct elements of your teeth and how they affect the treatment your Summerlin Dental Office provides. The enamel is the hard outer covering of your tooth that protects it from damage. It is a thin, light-colored coating that covers the tooth and protects it from the effects of regular activities like chewing and grinding. Enamel is the strongest and most durable tissue in the human body. However, it is still susceptible to cracking or deterioration over time as a result of usage

The health of our tooth enamel is crucial to our overall oral hygiene. Damage to the enamel of the teeth is the most common cause of pain and discomfort in the mouth. This erosion may occur when there is a higher concentration of acid in the mouth, when proper Summerlin dental care is not performed, or when there are medical disorders present.

Q: What causes Dental Erosion?

A: Dental erosion is caused by a variety of factors.

filing

1, Hard or sweet/sour candies are consumed.

2, Consuming carbonated beverages

3, Having a high intake of sweet foods

4, Heartburn

5, Eating disorders.

6, Genetics

7, Always having a dry mouth

Treatment alternatives are available for chipped teeth.

It is possible that your Summerlin Dental Office dentist may give many alternative suggestions if you have a chipped tooth as a consequence of a damaged portion of tooth enamel. A filling or dental bonding may be required if the damage is limited to a small part of your tooth structure. The filling will be placed on the damaged area of the tooth and will be covered over the area that is missing. A composite resin substance is used in conjunction with UV light to harden and fix the bonding material. This often gives the tooth a more natural appearance, and the color of the tooth will match the same color of your other teeth. Dental bonding is completely painless and does not always need the use of anesthetic. An anesthetic will be administered by your Summerlin Dental Office dentist to the area of your mouth that needs it if you require a filling. The anesthetic helps to alleviate any discomfort you might otherwise have during the procedure and wears off soon thereafter.

VENEERS OR CROWNS AT THE BEST COSMETIC DENTIST IN SUMMERLIN

VENEERS OR CROWNS AT THE BEST COSMETIC DENTIST IN SUMMERLIN

cleaning

Most individuals don't realize how different porcelain veneers and conventional crowns are, and believe they are the same. Veneers are thin porcelain shells that are custom-made to fit the patient's mouth and are very thin. In a minimally invasive way, veneers are a great tool for rebuilding and resurfacing teeth, and we utilize them extensively. Veneers require adhesive bonding to chemically attach or "glue" them to the underlying tooth structure and prevent them from shifting. The preservation of as much natural tooth structure as possible, particularly enamel, allows for the creation of the greatest possible bond surface for extremely thin veneers.

Having their teeth "carved down" is a common source of anxiety for many patients, who are astonished to hear that porcelain veneers are fundamentally different from conventional crowns.

For the most predictable outcomes, veneers operate best when the maximum amount of natural tooth structure is kept. This is because veneers must be bonded to enamel to be effective. Traditional crowns need the removal of more tooth structure to be strong, and they are kept in place by friction produced by dental cement rather than bonding.

Porcelain veneers may help you get the look you've always wanted. When it comes to resurfacing, creating, and remodeling smiles, one of the most effective tools we have is porcelain veneers. Ceramic veneers may be an ideal alternative for you if you have defects in your smile such as chipped or cracked teeth, gaps between teeth, or aging dentistry. They may help you recapture a smile you've lost or finally experience what it's like to love your smile.

Answers to the Most Frequently Asked Questions regarding Veneers

Q: Will my porcelain veneers appear to be the same color as my natural teeth?

A: If you get them designed by Summerlin Dental Solutions, then absolutely yes! Creating a beautiful smile is what Dr. Cohan does with the final result in mind. She pays attention to what you want to modify or enhance and then incorporates her skills to produce a one-of-a-kind smile for each and every patient with whom she works. She makes wearable pieces of art that are inspired by her facial design method, which you may enjoy every day. Patients frequently tell us at Summerlin Dental Solutions that it truly does change their life. They feel happier because they are actually smiling more. Their self-confidence soars with their newfound comfort level socially.

In most cases, it is so easy to distinguish between mediocre dentistry and the work of an artist who can replicate the natural form and contour found in actual teeth. However, we recognize that everyone adds a unique personality to our practice, so if you are outgoing and want the world to know you have had your smile improved, we can also develop one that is tailored to your specific needs and personality. Always a unique piece of art, each case is designed to meet your specific smiling objectives. We are proud to be able to do that for all our patients!

Q: How long do you think my veneers will last?

A: When planned and created properly, porcelain veneers have the same strength as real teeth. As a result, they are highly durable! You should expect a decent service life of 10 to 20 years if you provide good home care and get regular check-ups to keep your health in peak condition. Because your natural teeth are still prone to decay, it is vital to practice great oral hygiene at home, including regular brushing and flossing. Dr. Cohan will examine each tooth during your maintenance visits, and they will be able to monitor your health between sessions.

We can monitor and identify changes like tooth movement, wear from grinding, tooth surface damage, and other changes that may occur between visits thanks to our ultra-modern digital equipment. This enables possible concerns to be discovered immediately and brought to your attention before they have a chance to worsen or spread. Our Summerlin Dental office sees many local patients who return to see Dr. Cohan at least once a year so that she can assess the health of their cosmetic investment in our Summerlin Dental office.

Q: Is it painful or uncomfortable to have veneers placed?

A: The procedure of customizing your smile for veneers should be as painless as possible. It is common for teeth to require just a small amount of dental structure removed; in rare situations, the procedure can even be performed without the use of anesthesia. Aside from providing spa-like facilities such as noise-canceling BOSE headphones, soft blankets, memory foam pillows, and massage chairs, our Summerlin Dental office also strives to create a quiet and soothing environment for our clients.

Dr. Cohan creates each smile from scratch, making each one a one-of-a-kind work of art. Dr. Cohan has earned the trust of her patients due to her many years of experience in producing amazing outcomes for some of the most difficult patients. Every city and town in the United States offers mediocre dental care. If you've ever wondered why people travel from all over Las Vegas to see Dr. Cohan, the answer is simple: the results she achieves regularly are nothing short of spectacular.

Wishing you could have an even straighter smile without the bulky wires and bands of traditional metal braces? Look no further. If you want a straight, beautiful smile no matter what stage of life you're in, a teenager or later in life you should have access to a pleasant and convenient method of doing it.

When it comes to teeth straightening, Invisalign®, the virtually undetectable modern approach to teeth straightening, is an amazing cosmetic dentistry option for teens and adults in Summerlin who want to straighten their teeth with as little disruption to their daily lives as possible.

More information can be found at Invisalign

One of the newest Dental technologies, like Invisalign, has transformed the way cosmetic dentistry is practiced, and Summerlin Dental Solutions is a popular place to go for this type of treatment. Doctor Marianne Cohan is a cosmetic dentist who provides expert consultations and cutting-edge dentistry services such as digital x-rays and laser dentistry to ensure that each and every appointment is as efficient and effective as possible. Contact us or make an appointment online today to find out if Invisalign teeth straightening in Summerlin is the correct choice for you.

What Is Invisalign and How Does It Work?

Invisalign is a revolutionary approach to teeth straightening that utilizes a series of clear plastic aligners that are custom-made for each patient. The aligners are made of a BPA-free material that is pleasant, smooth, and almost undetectable, and they are designed to fit tightly around your teeth. Treatment with Invisalign is designed to repair misaligned teeth by gradually shifting them into appropriate alignment over time, resulting in a more attractive smile at the conclusion of the treatment term.

Invisalign's Advantages and Disadvantages

Dental professionals use Invisalign to treat a variety of orthodontic difficulties. Invisalign can correct the following problems:

  • Teeth that are crooked
  • Teeth that are crowded
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Teeth that are missing or have gaps in them

What are the advantages of using Invisalign?

  • It is nearly undetectable, making it ideal for teenagers who are self-conscious about their appearance as well as adults who wish to maintain a professional image in the workplace.
  • In comparison to braces, custom aligners are smoother and more pleasant against the cheeks and tongue. Metal brackets can be annoying, but custom aligners feel smoother and more comfortable against the cheeks and tongue.
  • As compared to traditional braces, Invisalign allows for improved oral hygiene because brushing teeth with traditional braces can be difficult, which increases the possibility of germs and plaque development around the braces. Teeth are more susceptible to gum disease and tooth decay as a result of this. The ability to remove Invisalign aligners before eating or brushing the teeth makes it easier to maintain good oral hygiene.
  • Users of Invisalign do not have to refrain from eating hard and crunchy foods like almonds, pretzels, and apples while wearing the aligners. When wearing traditional braces, these foods should be avoided since they have the potential to cause the wires to snap. This implies that patients can get their teeth straightened without having to sacrifice their enjoyment of food.

Who is a Candidate for Invisalign treatment?

Generally speaking, individuals who seek straighter teeth but wish their cosmetic treatment to be inconspicuous, as well as those who have the discipline to wear the aligners throughout the treatment time on a consistent basis, are suitable candidates for Invisalign orthodontic treatment. Invisalign, on the other hand, is better suited for older teens and adults because their jaws have already reached their complete development.

Furthermore, adults are more likely than children to be committed to the program, which is essential for its success. When it comes to orthodontic concerns, Invisalign is effective. Making an appointment with our office is the most effective way to determine your eligibility. We can use a variety of digital images to examine your situation and determine whether Invisalign is the best treatment option for your needs.

Invisalign Treatment in Summerlin: How Does It Work?

Dr. Cohan, a cosmetic dentist in Summerlin, takes customized impressions of your teeth and digital photographs of your teeth, which are then sent to the Align facility for processing. A detailed virtual representation of your teeth is built at that location. If you are a good candidate, Dr. Cohan will analyze your virtual models and custom constructs a set of sturdy, transparent aligners to begin the teeth straightening process and improve your smile.

For the duration of the treatment, you will wear your custom-made aligners for 20-22 hours per day and will receive a new aligner every one to two weeks until the therapy is completed.

E-INVIS2-300x106

Invisalign vs. Braces: Which is better?

Both Invisalign and braces are efficient ways for straightening and aligning your teeth; however, the treatment processes are distinct, and the types of orthodontic disorders that they can fix are also distinct from one another. Let's have a look at their advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages of Invisalign:

  • Virtually imperceptible
  • It is really comfortable to wear.
  • Dental hygiene has improved.

The disadvantages of Invisalign are as follows:

  • Self-discipline is required; while having removable trays seems easy, removing them too frequently will result in a prolonged treatment period. When your aligners are not worn all the time, the results may not be as effective as when your aligners are worn on a regular basis.

Why Invisalign is not appropriate for everyone  Invisalign is best suited for older teens and adults who have modest orthodontic issues.

Braces Advantages

Extremely effective - because braces are fastened, the forces applied to the teeth can be significantly higher. It ensures that the treatment is effective, no matter how difficult the case is.

The fact that braces cannot be removed indicates that some patients may have a shorter treatment time as a result of this restriction.

Braces have a few disadvantages:

In terms of looks, people who wear braces feel self-conscious about their appearance because the wires are so evident on their teeth.

  • Dental hygiene is a struggle when you have braces on since it is more difficult to keep your teeth clean. It becomes more difficult to brush and floss your teeth and neglecting to remove plaque accumulation can result in tooth decay, tooth discoloration, and gum disease.

Patients with braces are on a restricted diet in order to avoid the possibility of snapping any wires during the course of their treatment. It is necessary to avoid chewy sweets, gum, popcorn, chips, almonds, and other similar items.

Procedures for Invisalign treatment at the Summerlin Dental office

The first step in your Invisalign adventure is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Cohan. She will listen to your concerns about your smile, and she will recommend the finest solutions for achieving those concerns. At the initial visit, digital scans of your teeth are taken, and the digital scans are forwarded to the lab for use in virtual treatment planning. Dr. Cohan creates a personalized treatment plan for your new smile. Once your treatment has been approved, the lab will produce a series of aligners that will be used to gradually reposition your teeth into a more favorable position.

You will be required to wear your custom-made aligners for around 22-23 hours per day. We can employ virtual check-ins for progress checks in order to reduce the number of office visits while still keeping you on track. Dr. Cohan will be able to better monitor your therapy and ensure that everything is going according to plan as a result. Following the completion of your treatment, you will be provided with retainers that will help you keep your new position and avoid moving.

Frequently Asked Questions are included below.

Q: How often do I need to put my aligners on and take them off?

A: As a general rule, it is recommended that you wear your aligners for 20-22 hours each day and only take them out to eat or brush and floss your teeth.

Q: How are the aligners created?

A: Following your decision to receive treatment in our Charlotte office, we will take impressions and photographs, which will be submitted to the Align lab for processing. There, Invisalign technology will scan the impressions into a computer and produce a series of aligners that will gradually shift your teeth into the ideal position over a period of one to two weeks.

Q: What is the cost of Invisalign?

A: The most important aspect in determining the price is the complexity of the movement. The typical cost is from $3,500 to $8,500 per hour.

Q: When it comes to teeth straightening, do insurance policies cover Invisalign® treatment?

A: The use of Invisalign should, in most cases, be covered to the same extent as traditional braces if a patient in our Summerlin Dental office is covered for orthodontic treatment. Most insurance plans that include orthodontics will reimburse you for a portion of your treatment costs up to a certain level.

Q: Will using Invisalign aligners have an effect on my ability to speak?

A: Some people's speech may be affected by clear aligners for a short period of time, and you may experience a little lisp for a day or two. However, when you become accustomed to wearing aligners in your mouth, any lisp that may have been produced by the aligners should be eliminated.

Q: Is it true that clear aligners are effective for teeth straightening?

A: Without a doubt! Invisalign has been used to treat more than 1.5 million patients with a wide range of dental issues during the past decade. Invisalign was created in collaboration with orthodontists and is now used in dental offices all over the world.

I drink a lot of coffee. Could it be hurting my smile? CHECK WITH THE COSMETIC DENTIST NEAR ME

February 16, 2022

I DRINK COFFEE. COULD IT BE HURTING MY SMILE?

smile

At Summerlin Dental Solutions, we know most of our patients enjoy a cup of coffee or two throughout the day. But what many of you don’t know is that coffee can be especially tough on your teeth because tannic acid (the substance that makes the dark color) etches into the pits and grooves of tooth enamel, staining your pearly whites and being generally detrimental to your smile.

Coffee is one of the most popular beverages in the world, with more than 50 percent of people drinking a cup daily. Other foods and drinks such as wine, chocolate-flavored beverages, and soft drinks can all cause tooth enamel discolorations. A hot cup of Joe, however, goes one step farther: extreme temperature changes in your mouth can cause teeth to expand and contract. This allows stains to penetrate deep into the micro-cracks of your tooth enamel.

Additionally, caffeine is considered a diuretic, which means it causes the body to lose fluids. So when you enjoy coffee or any kind of caffeinated beverage, it slows the production of saliva and causes dry mouth, which can potentially lead to bad breath and even tooth decay.

coffee

If you just can't make it through the day without a cup of java, we encourage you to consider these tips to help make sure your teeth stay in tip-top shape:

  • Drink a glass of water with your coffee or rinse with a glass of water after every cup. Not only does it help neutralize and rinse away the acid left behind from the coffee, but it also helps replenish fluids drawn out of your body by caffeine.
  • Chew gum after you drink coffee. Chewing gum will help keep your saliva production up and prevent dry mouth.
  • Enjoy your beverage with a straw so that tannins don’t make contact with your front upper and lower teeth.
  • Switch to decaf. Each cup of regular coffee you drink has an average of 110 milligrams of caffeine. Decaf has the same great taste with only two to 12 milligrams of caffeine.

CLOSE GAPS IN TEETH WITHOUT BRACES AT YOUR SUMMERLIN DENTAL OFFICE!

TEETH-WITH-SPACES-295x300

Gaps between teeth are a common cosmetic dentist concern that causes many of our patients at Summerlin Dental Solutions to feel self-conscious about their Summerlin smiles. For those who are hesitant to invest the time required for orthodontics, we at our Summerlin dental office suggest cosmetic teeth bonding or crowns, which can close most gaps between the teeth without the need for braces. For this procedure, our dentist utilizes state-of-the-art, composite resin material to artfully widen and reshape the teeth to reduce gaps. The tooth bonding material can be precisely matched to the exact shade of your teeth so that the enhancements blend seamlessly with your smile. Patients are generally very pleased with their cosmetic bonding results and often express a renewed sense of self-confidence after the procedure.

The cosmetic bonding process is quick, and pricing is relatively economical when compared with other options such as porcelain veneers, crowns or Invisalign®. However, the results of cosmetic bonding are not typically as resilient or long-lasting as those achieved with porcelain veneers or orthodontics. Bonding commonly has a lifespan of about five to ten years, depending on the materials used, maintenance, and other factors. Replacing existing tooth bonding that no longer has an optimal appearance is also a fairly simple, cost-effective process that can produce transformative results.

If you are considering cosmetic bonding to close the gap between your teeth, we encourage you to contact our Summerlin dental office and schedule a consultation with Dr. Cohan to explore your options. She will perform a full evaluation of your teeth and outline the various treatment plans she can use to improve your smile.

VENEERS OR BONDING AT THE BEST COSMETIC DENTIST SUMMERLIN

VENEERS OR BONDING?

AT THE BEST COSMETIC DENTIST SUMMERLIN

attractive smiling woman portrait on white background

When it comes to repairing aesthetic dental flaws, Summerlin cosmetic dentist Marianne Cohan, DDS has a wide range of treatments to help you achieve a more attractive, natural-looking smile. Cosmetic bonding and porcelain veneers are two of Summerlin Dental Solutions’ most adaptable solutions for treating tooth problems and perceived smile defects. While each of these treatments can hide severe dental stains, gaps between teeth, chipped/cracked teeth, worn/short teeth, and malformed teeth, each technique has its own set of advantages and drawbacks that patients should be aware of:

VENEERS IN PORCELAIN

At Summerlin Dental Solutions porcelain veneers are thin shells of high-quality ceramic material glued to the visible front surfaces of teeth to hide cosmetic flaws while also improving their appearance. Porcelain veneers are a long-lasting choice for Summerlin smile improvement due to their durability, stain resistance, and natural aesthetic features; nevertheless, veneers are often a bit more expensive than cosmetic bonding but well worth it. Porcelain veneers are unusual in that they may restore the look of mild to moderate tooth misalignment. Porcelain veneers are the finest option for delivering comprehensive, star-quality celebrity smile makeovers in the vast majority of cases giving you a true Summerlin Smile.

BONDING IN THE COSMETIC INDUSTRY

To hide aesthetic dental faults and restore/reshape teeth, cosmetic dental bonding uses tooth-colored composite resin material. To obtain the perfect end result, the resin is put onto the tooth, hardened using a curing light, and then molded and polished. While cosmetic bonding can address many of the same issues as porcelain veneers, the results are neither as pleasing to the eye or as long-lasting. Bonding is frequently recommended as a temporary remedy or for minor repairs for these reasons. Patients who want more dramatic changes to their smile but aren't ready to invest in porcelain veneers may find that more extensive cosmetic bonding is a more affordable dental option.

Do you want to learn more about how porcelain veneers or cosmetic bonding can help you achieve the smile of your dreams? Make an appointment with Summerlin Dental Solutions by calling our office today. During your appointment, your Summerlin dentist will listen to your concerns, examine your teeth, and create a treatment plan that is tailored to your specific needs.

DENTAL VENEERS AND CROWNS; GO TO THE BEST COSMETIC DENTIST IN SUMMERLIN

February 6, 2022

DENTAL VENEERS AND CROWNS

GO TO THE BEST COSMETIC DENTIST IN SUMMERLIN

BEFORE-AFTER-CROWNS-300x300

Crowns and veneers are both excellent solutions for dental repair if you want to improve the appearance or function of your teeth. They do, however, serve distinct objectives, and it's critical to understand the fundamental distinctions in order to select which option best matches your needs.

Summerlin Dental Solutions is discussing the distinctions between crowns and veneers, the advantages and disadvantages of each, and what to expect from each procedure.

While crowns and veneers are not the same, they function similarly. They both serve as a substitute for natural teeth that have been damaged. The primary distinction between crowns and veneers is the amount of original tooth that is covered. Veneers cover the front of the teeth and may wrap around them, depending on the technique employed and the patient's needs, whereas crowns completely cover the tooth.

Crowns - What Are They?

A dental crown is a cap or cover that is fitted over the top of a tooth. It resembles the visible portion of a tooth's crown—the portion visible above the gumline.

Crowns from Summerlin Dental Solutions are frequently used to restore severely damaged teeth. If you have severe tooth decay, a large filling or root canal, or your tooth is severely cracked, a crown may be the best option. Crowns are also an excellent option for teeth that have been worn down at the edges due to excessive tooth grinding. Crowns can be used to restore a single tooth or a group of teeth.

WHAT IS THE METHOD BY WHICH CROWNS ARE OBTAINED?

The Conventional Approach: If your Summerlin dentist determines that a crown or two are the best option for you, we will create a mold of your tooth and send it to a lab for fabrication.

To create room for the crown, your Summerlin dentist may need to remove a portion of your natural tooth. Additionally, they will make a temporary crown to wear while the final crown is ready.

Once the permanent crown is completed, you will return to your dentist's office to have it securely cemented in place.

State-of-the-art Summerlin Dental Solutions offers a far more practical approach that enables for the completion of the permanent crown in one visit, referred to as a same-day crown. This is achieved through the use of CEREC technology, which consists of a computerized scan and design center connected to a porcelain milling machine. These restorations are flawless in every way - they are the ideal shade, shape, and fit! All of this while avoiding a second dental appointment and injection. Perhaps dentistry does not have to be so unpleasant.

If a big group of teeth, such as a whole arch or mouth, requires crowns, it is recommended that a prototype of the final Summerlin Dental crowns be produced prior to fabricating the final crowns. A prototype is a crown, or series of crowns, created in the laboratory that look and feel identical to the permanent crown. The term "prototype" may also apply to a temporary crown, a long-term provisional crown, or a PMMA crown. It enables the patient to assess the fit and feel of the new teeth before committing to a permanent set. Prototyping is an integral aspect of the workflow at Summerlin Dental Solutions for smile design and whole mouth rehabilitation. After verifying the prototype, a digital image (impression) is taken and the final restorations are computer machined to the prototype's exact specs. This method can be modified slightly based on the materials utilized.

This is the best way to assure that you are happy with the way your new teeth will look. You can wear these temporaries for as long as you need to evaluate the shade, length and overall appearance of your new teeth.

After all they are your teeth, and you are the one that needs to be thrilled with them and then wondering why you did not do it sooner!

FOR CROWNS, HOW MUCH TOOTH REDUCTION IS REQUIRED?

Because the crown will cover the majority of the visible region of the tooth, the tooth's thin outer layer will need to be reduced back to allow for a 0.5mm to 2mm layer of porcelain. In essence, the crown replaces the tooth's thin enamel shell.

If the tooth is decayed, the decayed portion of the tooth will be removed before the crown is placed. In the majority of cases, the decayed or damaged area of the natural tooth must be rebuilt in order to support the crown. Typically, the build-up is composed of a tooth-colored composite filling material.

Veneers - What Are They?

At Summerlin Dental Solutions Veneers are a thin veneer of porcelain that is put to the tooth's surface. Porcelain veneers are frequently utilized for cosmetic purposes and are frequently placed on the visible surfaces of all teeth. They can disguise discolored, uneven, crooked, worn, or chipped teeth. Veneers are less invasive than crowns and preserve a greater portion of the natural tooth.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR VENEERS?

If veneers are judged to be the best cosmetic dental option for you, your Summerlin dentist will develop a mold of your teeth to use in creating a mockup of your new smile.

In most situations, a tiny portion of tooth enamel will need to be removed to prepare your teeth for the veneer installation. Without this procedure, the veneers will appear unnaturally bulky. It is possible that a no-prep or microthin veneer may be a realistic alternative. Microthin veneers require little to no tooth structural modification. Additionally, they are considered reversible, as they can be removed to reveal the original tooth.

Permanent veneers at Summerlin Dental Solutions may take around one to two weeks to process, depending on the amount of time required at the lab, during which time you will wear a set of temporary veneers, to cover the decreased size of the teeth. This allows you to verify if the veneers are the correct form and color. If you have any concerns about the temporary veneers' appearance or feel, inform your dentist, as they can still adjust both the final veneers' fit and appearance

HOW MUCH TOOTH GRINDING DO VENEERS REQUIRE?

At Summerlin Dental Solutions veneers require only a small amount of tooth grinding—about 0.5mm to 2mm. Certain veneers are thinner and may require less grinding of the tooth surface or none at all.

Veneers are a permanent solution if any of the tooth enamel is removed. If any of the veneers are damaged, they must be replaced. All veneer patients are urged to wear a night guard during the night to safeguard their veneers. While the majority of patients do not have veneer failure, certain people have oral habits that cause veneers to shatter early. Individuals who grind their teeth or are bruxers are not suitable for veneers and would be much better suited by a dental crown — a more durable alternative.

The Distinction Between Crowns and Veneers

The primary distinction between crowns and veneers is the amount of original tooth that they cover. Consider a veneer to be one-half of a crown. When additional tooth surface needs to be repaired and fortified, crowns are the best alternative. Crowns improve both cosmetics and functional strength, whereas veneers improve only the cosmetic appearance of the teeth. If veneers are applied improperly in place of crowns, they will fail prematurely. The good news is that a veneer may always be converted to a crown if necessary.

ARE CROWNS PREFERRED VS. VENEERS?

Crowns are not always preferable to veneers. The best technique for you is determined by the state of your teeth and the desired outcome. Both are excellent options for improving the aesthetics of your smile, but only crowns can help you chew and eat your food more effectively.

ARE CROWNS OR VENEERS LONGER LASTING?

Both crowns and veneers can last a long time with proper care. Crowns are a reasonably permanent restoration that do not require removal for cleaning. Crowns and veneers normally last between 12 and 15 years but can last up to 30 years or more with good care. Bear in mind that you may need to replace your veneers and crowns at some point, especially if you received them as a child.

Crowns and veneers are not the only restoration or replacement choices for damaged teeth.

Tooth bonding can be used to correct minor faults on the teeth's surface, such as chipped teeth, discoloration, and moderately deformed teeth. Tooth Bonding is the process of placing a tooth-colored composite material to the tooth surface in order to improve its appearance. If you have minimal damage or discoloration in isolated areas, bonding may be a viable solution for you.

Dental implants at Summerlin Dental Solutions entail the complete replacement of a tooth, including the root. Implants are used to replace missing or removed teeth. Dental implants can fill gaps in the smile permanently while also supporting the jawbone structure. Dental implants are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth in appearance and function.
