Dr. Cohan performing facial aesthetics consultation with patient
Your dentist understands facial anatomy at a level most aesthetic providers never reach. After six years of studying the muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissues of the face and jaw in dental school and residency, Dr. Marianne Cohan brings a structural understanding of facial aesthetics that makes her one of the most qualified injectable providers in Las Vegas. AAFE-accredited. 19x Best of Las Vegas. One patient at a time.
Why Your Dentist Is the Best Choice for Injectables
When most people think about Botox and fillers, they think of medical spas, dermatologists, or plastic surgeons. What they rarely consider is that dentists receive more education in facial anatomy, nerve pathways, musculature, and injection technique than virtually any other healthcare provider. Dental school curriculum includes six years of focused study on the structures of the head, face, and neck, including the muscles that control facial expression, the trigeminal and facial nerve branches that govern sensation and movement, and the vascular anatomy that determines safe injection zones.
Dr. Marianne Cohan brings this foundational expertise, combined with 31 years of clinical experience performing precise injections in the facial region, accreditation from the American Academy of Facial Esthetics (AAFE), and thousands of completed injectable cases. Her understanding of how the muscles of facial expression interact with the underlying dental and skeletal structures produces results that are both aesthetically refined and structurally informed.
At Summerlin Dental Solutions, Botox and filler treatments are performed in a private, one-patient-at-a-time clinical environment using the same meticulous protocols, sterile technique, and focused attention that characterize every procedure in our practice. You are never one of many. You are the only patient in the building.
The Anatomy Advantage: What Dentists Know That Others Do Not
The face contains over 40 muscles, each with distinct origins, insertions, and actions. The facial nerve (cranial nerve VII) branches into five divisions that control all facial expression. The trigeminal nerve (cranial nerve V) provides sensation to the entire face. Major arteries and veins run through predictable but individually variable pathways. Knowing where these structures are, how they relate to one another, and how they vary between individuals is what separates safe, precise injectable placement from guesswork.
Dentists study these structures in cadaver dissection labs, in histology courses examining tissue at the cellular level, and in clinical rotations where they administer thousands of injections into the exact regions targeted by Botox and fillers. By the time a dentist graduates, they have a three-dimensional mental map of every nerve, vessel, and muscle in the face. Med spa injectors, who may complete a weekend training course before beginning to inject, simply do not have this depth of foundational knowledge.
Dr. Cohan amplifies this foundational advantage with her AAFE accreditation, which requires additional advanced training in injection techniques, product selection, complication management, and aesthetic treatment planning specific to facial injectables. She also brings the precision honed by 31 years of performing microscopic dental procedures under high-powered magnification, a level of fine motor control that directly translates to injectable placement where millimeters determine the difference between a natural result and an unnatural one.

How Botox Works: The Science
Botulinum toxin works by blocking the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, the point where a nerve signal tells a muscle to contract. When acetylcholine release is inhibited, the targeted muscle can no longer contract with its full force. The overlying skin, which had been creased by repeated muscle contraction, gradually smooths as the muscle relaxes. The effect is temporary because your body generates new nerve endings that eventually restore the neuromuscular connection, typically in 3 to 4 months.
The clinical art of Botox lies in knowing precisely which muscles to target, how many units to use, and where to place the injection points. Over-treating creates the ‘frozen’ look. Under-treating produces inconsistent results. Dr. Cohan’s 31 years of daily work with facial musculature gives her the nuanced understanding needed to dose and place Botox with precision. Products are sourced directly from the manufacturer and stored according to strict cold-chain protocols. We use only FDA-approved Botox (Allergan), Dysport (Galderma), and Xeomin (Merz).
Botox Treatment Areas
Horizontal forehead lines form from years of raising the eyebrows. Strategic Botox placement relaxes the frontalis muscle while preserving natural brow elevation and expression. Dr. Cohan avoids the ‘frozen’ look by using conservative doses placed at precise anatomical points.
The vertical ’11’ lines between the eyebrows are caused by the corrugator and procerus muscles. Treatment softens the furrows that make you appear angry, stressed, or fatigued even when you are not. Results visible within 5 to 7 days.
Fan-shaped lines radiating from the outer corners of the eyes form from years of squinting and smiling. Botox relaxes the orbicularis oculi muscle to soften these lines while preserving your natural smile. In the Las Vegas desert climate, this is one of our most requested procedures.
Botox injected into the masseter muscles provides significant relief from TMJ pain, chronic jaw tension, headaches from bruxism, and jaw fatigue. This treatment also provides jawline slimming for patients with enlarged masseters. Dr. Cohan can also address dental damage from grinding with restorative treatment for a comprehensive solution.
A small amount of Botox injected into the levator labii superioris muscle reduces gum exposure without affecting your natural smile dynamics. Can be combined with laser gum contouring for comprehensive correction.
Vertical lip lines and chin dimpling respond well to precise, low-dose Botox. These areas require exceptional injection skill because the muscles involved also control speech and oral function. Dr. Cohan’s dental training gives her an intimate understanding of these muscles.

How Dermal Fillers Work: The Science
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring molecule in your skin that binds water and provides volume and hydration. Each molecule of HA can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. As we age, our natural HA production declines, contributing to volume loss, wrinkle formation, and skin dehydration. HA dermal fillers are bioengineered versions of this same molecule, cross-linked into a gel of varying firmness and elasticity to suit different treatment areas.
Different products have different rheological properties: cohesivity (how well the gel holds together), elasticity (how it rebounds from movement), and viscosity (how easily it flows through a needle). A lip filler needs to be soft and pliable. A cheek filler needs to be firm and lift-capable. A tear trough filler needs to be smooth. Dr. Cohan selects the optimal product for each area from the Juvederm (Allergan), Restylane (Galderma), and RHA collections. All products are FDA-approved and sourced directly from the manufacturer. 0% financing through HFD makes all filler treatments accessible.
Filler Treatment Areas
Natural-looking lip enhancement using micro-droplet injection technique with hyaluronic acid fillers. Dr. Cohan adds volume gradually, defines the vermilion border, smooths vertical lip lines, and creates a balanced upper-to-lower lip ratio. Because she works on lips and perioral structures every day as a dentist, her familiarity with this anatomy is unmatched.
The lines running from the sides of the nose to the mouth corners deepen with age as facial volume diminishes. Fillers placed along these folds restore lost volume, softening the crease and creating a more youthful contour. Cross-linked hyaluronic acid products are calibrated to the depth of your specific folds.
Vertical lines from mouth corners downward toward the jawline create a downturned, sad appearance. Fillers at these lines and the oral commissures lift the mouth corners and restore a neutral resting expression. Often combined with Botox to the DAO muscle.
Volume loss in the midface is one of the earliest signs of aging. Strategic filler placement in the zygomatic and submalar regions restores the ‘triangle of youth,’ lifts the midface, and indirectly improves nasolabial folds. Results last 12 to 18 months.
Non-surgical jawline definition uses firm, high-viscosity fillers placed along the mandibular border to sharpen the jawline and reduce jowling. Dr. Cohan’s understanding of mandibular anatomy from dental practice makes her uniquely qualified for this treatment.
The delicate hollow beneath the eyes creates a tired, aged appearance. Dr. Cohan uses cannula-based injection technique to minimize bruising and places lightweight HA fillers with precision to smooth the hollow without puffiness.

What to Expect at Your Injectable Appointment
Your injectable journey begins with a thorough consultation. Dr. Cohan evaluates your facial anatomy, discusses your aesthetic concerns and goals, reviews your medical history and medications, and creates a customized treatment plan. She uses facial photography and analysis to identify the specific areas where Botox, fillers, or a combination will produce the most impactful improvement. You receive a clear, itemized cost estimate before any treatment begins. If you are also interested in cosmetic dental treatments such as veneers, whitening, or a smile makeover, Dr. Cohan can incorporate injectables into a comprehensive facial-dental plan during this same consultation.
Because we see one patient at a time, your treatment begins promptly. For Botox, the actual injection process takes 10 to 20 minutes. The needles are among the smallest in medicine. For fillers, topical numbing cream is applied 15 to 20 minutes before injection, and most filler products contain built-in lidocaine. Dr. Cohan uses cannula technique where appropriate to minimize bruising. A lip enhancement takes 20 to 30 minutes. Cheek or jawline augmentation takes 30 to 45 minutes.
Botox results appear within 3 to 5 days and reach full effect at 10 to 14 days. A two-week follow-up allows Dr. Cohan to assess and refine. Filler results are visible immediately, though minor swelling in the first 24 to 48 hours may temporarily exaggerate the result. The settled result appears at approximately one week. Post-treatment: avoid lying flat for 4 hours after Botox, avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours, avoid excessive heat for 24 to 48 hours, and avoid manipulating the treated area.
For Botox, most patients schedule treatments every 3 to 4 months. Over time, many find they can extend the interval as targeted muscles weaken from repeated treatment. For fillers, lip fillers are refreshed every 6 to 12 months, while cheek and jawline fillers last 12 to 18 months. Dr. Cohan tracks your treatment history and facial measurements over time, refining each subsequent treatment with her longitudinal knowledge of your anatomy.
The most powerful advantage of receiving injectables from an AACD and AAFE-accredited cosmetic dentist is coordinating facial aesthetics with dental aesthetics in a single comprehensive plan. Common combinations include:
A patient who wants porcelain veneers also wants their lips to complement the new teeth. A med spa cannot evaluate dental aesthetics. A dental office without injectable expertise cannot address the soft-tissue frame. Only an AACD and AAFE-accredited cosmetic dentist can design and execute both.

Patient Testimonial
“I had been getting Botox at a med spa for years and thought the results were good until I tried Dr. Cohan. The difference is night and day. She understood exactly which muscles were causing my issues, adjusted the placement in ways my previous provider never considered, and the result is so much more natural. I also had lip filler done at the same appointment as my veneer consultation. I will never go back to a med spa.”

Why should I get Botox from a dentist instead of a med spa?
Dentists receive more education in facial anatomy, nerve pathways, vascular structures, and injection technique than virtually any other healthcare provider. Dr. Cohan has performed an estimated 31,000+ facial injections over 31 years. Her AAFE accreditation confirms advanced injectable competency. Only a cosmetic dentist can coordinate Botox with dental treatments like veneers and smile makeovers for a unified facial-dental result.
How long does Botox last?
Typically 3 to 4 months. With consistent treatment over time, intervals may gradually lengthen as targeted muscles weaken from repeated relaxation. Dr. Cohan recommends scheduling follow-ups before the previous dose fully wears off for optimal continuous results.
How long do dermal fillers last?
Lip fillers: 6 to 12 months. Cheek and jawline fillers: 12 to 18 months. Nasolabial fold fillers: 9 to 12 months. All fillers used are hyaluronic acid-based, naturally metabolized by your body, and fully reversible with hyaluronidase if needed.
Does Botox or filler treatment hurt?
Discomfort is minimal. Botox uses tiny needles and most patients feel only a brief pinch. For fillers, topical numbing cream and built-in lidocaine provide comfort. Dr. Cohan’s injection technique, honed by 31 years of dental practice, is exceptionally gentle. Sedation options are available for anxious patients.
Can Botox help with TMJ pain and teeth grinding?
Yes. Masseter Botox reduces contractile force, relieving jaw pain, tension headaches, and bruxism damage. Dr. Cohan can also address the dental damage with restorative treatment and fabricate a custom night guard for comprehensive TMJ management that no med spa can provide.
What is the downtime after Botox or fillers?
Botox: essentially no downtime. Minor redness resolves within an hour. Fillers: mild swelling and occasional bruising that resolves in 3 to 5 days. Cannula technique reduces bruising. Avoid strenuous exercise, excessive heat, and alcohol for 24 hours after filler treatment.
Are fillers reversible?
Yes. All fillers used in our practice are hyaluronic acid-based. If needed, the filler can be dissolved quickly with hyaluronidase. This is a key safety advantage over permanent fillers, which we do not use.
Can I get Botox and fillers on the same day?
Absolutely. They are frequently combined in a single appointment (a ‘liquid facelift’). Botox addresses dynamic wrinkles, fillers address static wrinkles and volume loss. Treating both produces a more balanced, harmonious result.
What is the difference between Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin?
All three are botulinum toxin type A products with the same mechanism. Botox is most widely known. Dysport has slightly faster onset and may spread more (advantageous for larger areas). Xeomin is a ‘naked’ formulation that may reduce antibody formation risk. Dr. Cohan recommends the optimal product based on treatment area and individual response.
How much does Botox cost?
Priced per unit. Forehead: 10-20 units. Frown lines: 15-25 units. Crow’s feet: 8-15 units per side. TMJ/masseter: 25-50 units per side. Clear estimate provided at consultation. 0% financing through HFD is available.
How much do dermal fillers cost?
Priced per syringe. Lips: 1-2 syringes. Nasolabial folds: 1-2. Cheeks: 2-4. Jawline: 2-4. Exact number depends on severity and goals. Detailed estimate at consultation. 0% financing and all major credit cards accepted.
What products do you use?
FDA-approved products from Juvederm (Allergan) and Restylane (Galderma) families, including Ultra, Voluma, Volbella, Vollure, Restylane, Lyft, Kysse, Contour, and RHA Collection. Each has specific properties suited to different treatment areas. Dr. Cohan selects the optimal product for each area.
What is a gummy smile and can you fix it?
Excessive gum display when smiling, caused by overactive lip elevator muscles, excess gum tissue, or both. Botox reduces gum exposure. For excess tissue, Dr. Cohan combines Botox with laser gum contouring. As a cosmetic dentist, she diagnoses the cause and treats both components.
Am I a candidate for Botox or fillers?
Most healthy adults are candidates. Dr. Cohan evaluates your medical history, medications, allergies, and goals during consultation. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for patients with certain neuromuscular disorders.
What age should I start Botox?
No specific age. Some patients in their late 20s begin ‘preventive Botox’ to slow wrinkle formation. Others start in their 40s or 50s. The right time is when the lines bother you enough to want them addressed.
Will I look frozen or unnatural?
Not with Dr. Cohan. The ‘frozen’ look results from over-treatment. She uses conservative, precisely dosed Botox to reduce wrinkles while preserving natural expression. The goal is always ‘refreshed, never frozen.’ Her 31 years of facial muscle expertise ensures the ideal balance.
Can dental Botox help with migraines?
Yes. Botox is FDA-approved for chronic migraines. Dr. Cohan administers therapeutic Botox to the same muscle groups in the FDA protocol. For patients whose migraines relate to jaw clenching or TMJ dysfunction, treating the underlying dental cause alongside Botox produces better outcomes.
Do you offer PDO threads?
Yes. PDO threads are absorbable sutures placed beneath the skin to lift sagging tissue and stimulate collagen production. Effective for jawline definition, midface lifting, and neck tightening. Dr. Cohan is AAFE-trained in PDO techniques and combines them with Botox and fillers when appropriate.
How do I prepare for my injectable appointment?
Avoid blood-thinning supplements (fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba) and medications (aspirin, ibuprofen) for one week before. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours. Arrive with a clean face, no makeup. If having dental work and injectables on the same day, Dr. Cohan coordinates the sequence.
