We ask new patients to arrive about 10–15 minutes early so we can welcome you properly, answer any questions, and make sure your paperwork is in order. That said, you can save even more time by completing your patient forms online from home before you come in. That way you can walk in, relax, and we’ll get you started right away.

3. Can I fill out my new patient forms online before coming to your Las Vegas dental office?

Absolutely! We know your time is valuable, especially with everything happening in the Las Vegas valley. Our patient forms are available on our website so you can complete them from the comfort of your couch, your office, or even while waiting at Boca Park or Downtown Summerlin. 4. Do I need a referral from another dentist to see Dr. Cohan in Summerlin?

A comprehensive new patient visit generally takes about 60 to 90 minutes. We use that time to take digital X-rays, complete a thorough exam, discuss your health history and goals, and put together a personalized treatment plan. We never rush,  Dr. Cohan wants to make sure you leave with a clear understanding of your oral health and all of your options.

12. Can I schedule a dental appointment in Summerlin on a Saturday?

16. How often should I visit the dentist for checkups if I live in Las Vegas?

Dr. Cohan recommends checkups every six months for most patients. The dry desert climate here in Las Vegas can actually accelerate certain dental issues like dry mouth, enamel erosion, and gum irritation, so staying on a regular schedule helps us catch small problems before they become big ones. Some patients with specific conditions may benefit from visits every three to four months,  Dr. Cohan will let you know what’s right for you.

17. Does the dry Las Vegas climate really affect my teeth and gums?

It absolutely can. Las Vegas has extremely low humidity, and many of our patients experience dry mouth as a result, especially during the hot summer months. Saliva is your mouth’s natural defense against cavities and gum disease, so when it decreases, your risk goes up. Dr. Cohan often recommends staying well-hydrated, using a fluoride rinse, and coming in for regular cleanings to counteract the effects of our desert environment.

18. How can I prevent cavities between dental visits here in Summerlin?

The basics go a long way: brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, floss daily, and drink plenty of water, especially important in our Las Vegas heat. Limit sugary snacks and acidic drinks (including sports drinks, which are popular here). 20. Is flossing really that important? I brush my teeth every day.

We hear this question all the time, and we get it! But here’s the truth: brushing only reaches about 60% of your tooth surfaces. The areas between your teeth are where cavities and gum disease love to start. Flossing once a day, or using a water flosser if you prefer, cleans the spots your toothbrush simply cannot reach. Dr. Cohan can show you the most effective technique at your next visit.

21. My gums bleed when I brush. Should I be worried?

Bleeding gums are actually one of the earliest signs of gum disease, and it’s something we see often in our Las Vegas patients. The good news is that when caught early, it’s very treatable. 55. How long does a typical dental cleaning take at your Summerlin office?

A standard cleaning usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes. If you need a deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) for gum health, that may take a bit longer and may be done in stages. Either way, Dr. Cohan will explain everything beforehand so you know exactly what to expect and how long you’ll be in the chair.

56. Does teeth whitening actually work, and how long do results last in Las Vegas?

Professional teeth whitening works beautifully, and the results are dramatically better than over-the-counter products. Most patients see their teeth lighten by several shades. With good oral hygiene and touch-ups as needed, results can last a year or more. Keep in mind that coffee, red wine, and certain foods can gradually stain teeth over time, but Dr. Cohan can advise you on how to maintain your bright smile in our Summerlin sun.

57. What’s the difference between a regular filling and a tooth-colored filling?

Traditional silver (amalgam) fillings are durable but visible. Tooth-colored (composite) fillings are made from a material that matches your natural tooth color, so they’re virtually invisible. Dr. Cohan uses tooth-colored fillings for most patients because they look better, bond directly to the tooth structure, and preserve more of your natural tooth. Plus, they’re mercury-free.

58. How long does it take to get a dental crown at Summerlin Dental Solutions?

Getting a crown typically requires two visits. At the first appointment, Dr. Cohan prepares the tooth and takes a precise digital scan using our TRIOS scanner,  no messy putty impressions. A temporary crown is placed while a master dental lab crafts your permanent crown. At your second visit, usually one to two weeks later, your permanent crown is fitted and bonded into place. Dr. Cohan is known for crowns that look completely natural.

59. Is getting a dental implant painful? What is the recovery like?

Most patients are surprised by how comfortable the implant process actually is. Dr. Cohan uses local anesthesia and sedation options to keep you completely comfortable during the procedure. Afterward, most patients manage any soreness with over-the-counter pain medication and are back to their normal routine within a day or two.
