Three (3) Things to Consider During a Smile Makeover

Getting your teeth whitened and straightened is only part of what's involved in getting a smile makeover. When it comes to achieving the most gorgeous smile possible, there are a variety of aspects that need to be taken into consideration. You can be basing your view on the attractiveness of specific teeth, but without even realizing it, you might be looking for things that aren't there or that are there but aren't visible.

When you come in for a smile makeover at Summerlin Dental Solutions in Las Vegas, Nevada, there are a few primary factors that will determine the final outcome of your treatment. Even while our cosmetic dentist in Summerlin will explicitly need to treat certain problems, the way in which all of those components work together to create a beautiful smile is what is most important.

1. The Frame Around Your Teeth

There is more to a beautiful smile makeover than just one's teeth. In addition to this, it is connected to the "frame" of connective tissue that surrounds them. The volume of your lips, the level at which they lay on your teeth, and even the contour of your gum tissues (gingiva) can all play a part in how your smile seems to others.

As part of a smile makeover, Dr. Cohan may choose to integrate soft tissue therapy on occasion. Examples of this include gum recontouring for patients with short-looking teeth or "gummy" grins. When we make adjustments to the shape of the borders of your gums, we can improve the symmetry of your smile and make your teeth appear bigger as well as healthier.

To assist the lips and cheeks lay pleasantly around the teeth, cosmetic dentists will sometimes integrate injectables or fillers into the overall plan for a smile makeover. This is done for the sole purpose of improving the appearance of the smile makeover. Even the shade of lipstick you wear and the routine you follow to take care of your skin can have an effect on how pleasant your smile seems.

It is important to keep in mind the state of health of your gum tissues. Even if you have absolutely lovely teeth, if your gums are red, inflamed, bleeding, swollen, or receding, it will take away from the beauty of your smile. This is true even if you have healthy teeth. When periodontal disease goes untreated, it not only causes gums to become red or inflamed, but it also eventually results in the loss of teeth and bone. You can keep your gingiva healthy and tight like they are supposed to be if you schedule routine dental cleanings and address periodontitis early on. Your breath will also improve as an extra bonus to this treatment!

2. Taking Care of Teeth that Are Missing

Your diet, your ability to speak clearly, and the overall attractiveness of your smile can all be affected when you are missing teeth. Even if the teeth you're missing aren't visible because they're placed further back in your bite, the effects of their absence can still be felt in other parts of your body. For instance, the space that is created when a tooth is extracted may cause the surrounding teeth to shift out of position. It is also possible for teeth on the opposite arch to "super-erupt" into the open space, which would make it more difficult to properly align the teeth on the opposite arch.

The effects of bone resorption, often known as bone shrinkage, are another consideration. When you are missing teeth during a smile makeover, the bone in the surrounding area will start to recede and become less dense. As a consequence of this, a hollow area will develop in the soft tissues of your face as a result of your cheeks collapsing inward or your jaw appearing "shorter."

Dr. Cohan needs to make sure that all of your missing teeth are repaired with permanent and effective restorations so that you can have a bite that is both functional and appealing fro a smile makeover. However, we also take the situation a step farther. We treat teeth that are in danger of falling out by repairing damage or curing illness while there is still a chance that the tooth can be saved. You'll be able to store it safely for an extended period of time this way. When repairing broken or decayed teeth, we use restorations that are not only non-invasive but also aesthetically pleasing. Some examples include porcelain crowns and white fillings.

When it comes to the replacement of lost teeth, our dentist in Summerlin provides a variety of solutions, including fixed dental implants and porcelain bridges. Depending on the number of teeth that need to be restored, any one of them can be used on its own or in conjunction with the other. Your new bite will appear to be as natural as possible thanks to the exact adjustments made to the design.

3. Achieving Balance and Proportion in Your Smile

The human brain has a hardwired preference for symmetrical forms. When something is not symmetrical, it might give the impression that whatever it is being compared to is unbalanced or even unhealthy, depending on the context. You might be able to get away with an asymmetrical haircut, but it's highly unlikely that you would choose for your teeth to be in that position.

You should strive for perfection by having teeth that are white and straight, since this will provide the impression of symmetry. Every aspect of a tooth's appearance, from its color and biting edge to its overall shape, should be carefully considered. For a healthy appearance overall, it is important for the teeth to fit in with one another.

Invisalign, teeth whitening, dental bonding, recontouring, or even porcelain veneers could be among the treatments that Dr. Cohan recommends using for a smile makeover, depending on the nature of the symmetry concerns that need to be addressed. You will go closer to having the "ideal" smile as we work to make each tooth appear as though it belongs with the teeth around it.
